Mark Levine

Mark Levine is a Managing Director at Core Capital Partners, a Washington, DC–based venture capital firm founded in 1999 that has raised multiple funds and, per the firm's own materials, manages over $750 million (aggregate across its funds; earlier fund vintages cite $400M). He joined Core Capital in 2000. The firm concentrates on early-stage enterprise-software companies in cloud computing, cybersecurity, data analytics, and mobile, and typically leads or co-leads rounds with a strong bias toward companies in the broader Mid-Atlantic region.

Before Core Capital, Levine founded GCI Venture Partners, an early-stage technology venture fund that was an early investor in webMethods — one of the most successful software IPOs in NASDAQ history. Earlier in his career he was an officer responsible for corporate development and strategy at GEO-CENTERS, a technology firm with more than $200 million in revenue at the time it was acquired by SAIC. Before entering the private sector, Levine served in government as Subcommittee Staff Director for the Small Business Committee in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Levine has served on the boards of a long list of Core Capital portfolio companies, including ZeroFOX, Staq, Medventive, buySAFE, New Edge, Revulytics, Valen, Univa, UpdateLogic, FreedomPay, Roundbox, InPhonic, Vizbee, and VocalData. Beyond his portfolio work, he has been active in the regional entrepreneurship community — including as Chair of the Mid-Atlantic Venture Association (MAVA) — and has held civic/board roles such as the University System of Maryland Foundation, Arena Stage, and advisory roles with university entrepreneurship centers.

He holds an M.B.A. from The George Washington University and a B.A. from Northeastern University.
