Background

Mark Lynch founded Oghma Partners in January 2008 and has built it into one of the most active independent M&A advisory boutiques in the UK and European food, beverage and food-ingredients sectors. He has spent more than 30 years in financial services, specialising in the food & beverage space, and today serves as the firm's Founder and Managing Director/Partner. Oghma is a London-headquartered corporate advisory firm that advises UK and Continental European consumer companies and investors on acquisitions, divestments, buy-outs, strategy and raising capital.

Before establishing Oghma, Mark was a Managing Director at Goldman Sachs, where he was Head of Consumer Coverage — spanning the food, beverage, tobacco, household products, retail, media and luxury goods sectors. Prior to Goldman Sachs he spent roughly ten years at UBS (and its predecessor SG Warburg), where he was part of and then led the No. 1 Extel-rated Food and Tobacco research team and was also the No. 1 Extel-rated Household Products analyst. Earlier in his career he worked at BZW (now part of CSFB), Credit Lyonnais and Wedd Durlacher, gaining broad equity research, IPO and transaction experience — including work on IPOs for Coca-Cola Beverages, Cantrell & Cochrane and McBride Plc, and rights issues/equity placings for clients such as Hillsdown Holdings and Numico.

Mark holds a BSc in Economics from Brunel University and a Postgraduate Certificate in Architecture (PgCertArch) from Oxford University. He lives in Richmond, Surrey, is married with four children, and lists mountain biking, sailing, surfing, skiing and vintage cars among his hobbies.

Investment Thesis & Focus

  • Focuses squarely on the food, beverage, food-ingredients, packaging and broader consumer sectors — Oghma bills itself as "the most active M&A advisor in the European food ingredients sub-sector."
  • Works primarily on the sell-side and buy-side of M&A (acquisitions, divestitures, corporate carve-outs) plus strategic advice and capital raising — rather than making direct equity investments as an angel or seed fund.
  • Sees food ingredients as structurally attractive for M&A "due to diverse end markets, sticky customer relationships, and high margins."
  • Publishes a well-known periodic UK Food & Beverage M&A market review, tracking deal volumes and values — a signal of the data-driven, sector-specialist lens he brings to advising clients.
