Background

Mark McCammon co-founded Strength Capital Partners in 2000 with fellow Harvard Business School classmate Mike Bergeron. The firm began as a traditional lower-middle-market private equity fund and, in 2011, pivoted to an independent-sponsor (deal-by-deal) model. As Managing Partner, McCammon is primarily responsible for investment sourcing and valuation, transaction structuring, investment oversight, fundraising, and the firm's administrative and compliance activities.

Before founding Strength Capital, McCammon worked at Goldman Sachs & Co. in corporate finance and mergers & acquisitions, and earlier at T. Rowe Price Associates as an equity research analyst. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Finance from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, and an MBA from Harvard Business School.

McCammon serves as Chairman of the board for several Strength Capital portfolio companies, including ESP Associates, RW Specialties, Truesdell Corporation, and Western States Water. Outside the firm, he sits on the Board of Trustees of ACE Scholarships. Strength Capital describes his motivation plainly: "Learning about interesting new businesses, meeting interesting and successful new people and working with Strength Capital's current investments is very fulfilling to Mark."

Investment Thesis & Focus

  • Invests in established, cash-generating lower-middle-market companies (~$4M–$25M EBITDA), not startups — this is a control-buyout / private-equity strategy, not angel or seed investing.
  • Core strategy is "industrial consolidation": acquiring a platform company and then growing it through both organic growth and a series of strategic add-on acquisitions.
  • Sector emphasis on manufacturing, distribution, and infrastructure & industrial services, with a broader appetite spanning consumer products, financial services, energy, and transportation.
  • Targets "high returning assets that generate sustainable performance over a long-term investment horizon," with a stated emphasis on operational excellence and buying undervalued businesses.
  • Geographic tilt toward platforms in the central United States, investing nationally.

Notable Investments

  • ESP Associates — Engineering/infrastructure services platform; initial investment in 2018, subsequently expanded via five add-on acquisitions; Strength Capital completed a continuation vehicle for it in July 2025.
  • Kelchner — Acquired April 25, 2025; the firm's most recent platform/acquisition.
  • Truesdell Corporation — Infrastructure/construction services portfolio company (McCammon is Chairman).
  • Western States Water — Portfolio company (McCammon is Chairman).
  • RW Specialties — Portfolio company (McCammon is Chairman).
  • Grand Equipment Company — Portfolio company (transaction advised by Houlihan Lokey).
