Background
Martial Chaillet is a Geneva-based investor and media-sector specialist who founded MediaWin & Partners S.A. in 2003 as a private investment firm targeting media and communications companies across the U.S. and Europe. He holds a degree in econometrics from the University of Geneva and graduated with honors from a Swiss technical school. He speaks English and French.
Before founding MediaWin, Chaillet spent roughly thirty years with The Capital Group Companies, one of the world's largest asset managers. He served as Senior Vice President and Global Portfolio Manager at Capital Research and Management (Capital Group's mutual-fund arm), where he co-managed large international portfolios including the Euro Pacific Growth Fund, SMALLCAP World Fund, and American Variable Insurance International/Global Growth funds — managing in the range of $4–6 billion (roughly 1998–2002). He was named a Morningstar Fund Manager of the Year in 1999 and is widely described as a recognized expert in the media sector.
Chaillet is also long associated with Drake Star Partners (formerly Bryan, Garnier / Redwood Capital–linked activity), a global technology, media and communications investment bank with offices in New York, London, Paris, Munich, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Berlin, Geneva, Singapore and Dubai. He previously served as Chairman and, following a 2018 leadership restructuring, became Vice-Chairman supporting strategic development and leading the firm's Geneva presence. Note that the Geneva entity "Drake Star Partners Sàrl" was placed into liquidation/dissolved by shareholder decision on 20 March 2024, and several data providers list MediaWin & Partners as "permanently closed," so his active deal-making through these vehicles appears to have wound down.
Investment Thesis & Focus
- Invests exclusively in the media and communications industry, favoring companies that build products for business, entertainment, education and humanitarian purposes.
- Historically early-stage focused but opportunistic "at all stages" — from seed and venture through pre-IPO, well-developed growth companies, buy-outs, restructurings and recapitalizations.
- Draws on deep public-markets and small/large-cap research discipline from three decades at Capital Group, applying a portfolio-manager's fundamentals lens to private media bets.
- Geographic remit spans the United States and Europe, consistent with a cross-border, Geneva-based operating base.
- More recent public activity leans toward consumer & retail tech and digital media advisory/board work via Drake Star.
