Martien Osch

Martien van Osch is a co-founder, Managing Partner, and Chief Financial Officer of Forbion, one of Europe's largest dedicated life sciences investment firms. He co-founded the firm in 2006 when its team spun out of ABN AMRO's life sciences investment practice. Before Forbion, he spent roughly six years as an Investment Director at ABN AMRO Capital Life Sciences and, prior to that, about four years in various roles within ABN AMRO Capital and the wider ABN AMRO Group. He holds a degree (MSc) in Econometrics from Rijksuniversiteit Groningen (University of Groningen).

For much of Forbion's early history Martien focused on the medical technology side of the portfolio, leading the firm's medtech investing across Forbion Funds I–III until 2017. In that period he was responsible for a string of successful device exits and served on multiple boards. He also has significant biopharma experience, having held board positions at companies such as Santaris Pharma and Acadia Pharmaceuticals.

From 2018 to 2023 he represented Forbion in Asia, based in Singapore, where he helped build the firm's presence and relationships in the region for about five years. He subsequently relocated to Forbion's US office in Boston, where he leads the firm's North American presence while serving as CFO and as a member of Forbion's Ventures and Growth investment committees. As CFO and Managing Partner his remit spans both the investment platform and firm operations, including fund structuring and finance for a firm that now manages roughly €5 billion in assets.

• Invests in life sciences — historically medical technology and, across Forbion broadly, therapeutics-focused biopharma companies with strong clinical data.
• Backs companies from early venture through growth/development stage, including newly created companies ("NewCos") built around promising science.
• As part of the Ventures and Growth investment committees, he helps steer capital into a concentrated portfolio (each recent fund plans ~15 investments), favoring depth of ownership over breadth.
• Track record oriented toward clear exit paths — the medtech companies he backed were typically sold to strategic acquirers (BTG, HeartWare, Bayer, Abiomed, AngioDynamics) or taken public.
• As CFO/co-founder he brings a finance and econometrics discipline to diligence and fund construction alongside scientific and clinical evaluation.
