Background

Martin Pustilnick is an Argentine-born (Buenos Aires) entrepreneur and investor. He earned a BA in Economics from Universidad Torcuato Di Tella and an MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business. He began his professional career as an Associate at The Boston Consulting Group (2012–2014), then moved into technology operating roles, spending time in strategy and operations at OLX and joining PayJoy around 2016 to help launch its operations in Mexico.

In October 2017 he became an investor at Exor Seeds (the venture arm of holding company Exor N.V.), backing companies from seed to Series B. In July 2018 he joined FJ Labs — the New York-based, stage-agnostic fund founded by Fabrice Grinda and Jose Marin — as an Entrepreneur in Residence and Investor, where he focused on consumer internet and marketplace businesses. FJ Labs is known for a high-volume, marketplace-centric investing model, and Pustilnick's profile there reflects that thesis.

While an EIR at FJ Labs, Pustilnick went on to co-found Mundi (with Paulina Aguilar Vela), a fintech platform serving small and medium-sized Mexican exporters shipping to the United States. Founded in 2019–2020, Mundi provides working capital and cross-border financial services — paying exporters upfront rather than making them wait 30–90 days for payment — and later added FX products described as the first fully digital offering in LatAm letting companies of any size lock in exchange rates up to a year in advance. He serves as Mundi's Co-Founder and CEO.

His combined vantage point — a marketplace/consumer-internet investor at FJ Labs and an operating fintech founder — informs how he evaluates deals: he has personally raised institutional debt and equity, scaled a cross-border marketplace-adjacent business, and worked across the US and Latin America.

Investment Thesis & Focus

  • Invests primarily in consumer internet and marketplace businesses, consistent with the FJ Labs model of backing transactional, network-effect startups.
  • Writes checks in the roughly $220K–$1.3M range, with a ~$750K sweet spot, out of a fund reported at ~$175M.
  • Comfortable across seed, Series A, and Series B, though the FJ Labs angel/EIR model leans early.
  • As a founder-operator himself (Mundi), he brings an operator's lens on marketplaces, cross-border commerce, and fintech, and has firsthand experience raising both venture equity and debt/warehouse facilities.
  • LatAm-literate (Argentina/Mexico exposure via OLX, PayJoy, and Mundi), useful for founders building cross-border or Latin American businesses.

Notable Investments

  • Mundi — Co-founded; cross-border trade-finance and FX platform for SME Mexican exporters (his own company; not a passive investment). Backers include Union Square Ventures, Base10 Partners, Upper90, FJ Labs, Exor, AlleyCorp, Operator Partners, and Gilgamesh Ventures.
  • FJ Labs deals: FJ Labs invests at very high volume across consumer marketplaces; individual deal-by-deal attribution to Pustilnick is not publicly broken out in the sources reviewed, so specific named portfolio companies could not be reliably verified for this profile.
