Martin Robinson

Martin Robinson is a healthcare and growth-equity investor who has spent most of his career deploying principal capital across Asia-Pacific. He is Australian and holds a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) and a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Queensland. He began his professional life as an M&A and equity capital markets lawyer with Allens in Australia and Linklaters in the UK and Hong Kong, before moving into investing.

Robinson spent roughly five years with Macquarie Bank (Australia and Hong Kong), where he was responsible for the group's Asian principal investments and portfolio companies across healthcare, education, consumer, technology, and financial services, and led the bank's sponsor coverage in the region. He subsequently joined the Religare/Fortis Healthcare group in Singapore as Head of Corporate Finance for Southeast Asia, where he was responsible for several landmark healthcare principal investments across Asia-Pacific — including Fortis's acquisition of Vietnam's Hoàn Mỹ Medical Corporation and its ~US$195m acquisition of Quality HealthCare in Hong Kong.

As a Managing Director at Clermont Group — the Singapore-based investment house founded by New Zealand investor Richard Chandler — Robinson originated and led the ~US$123m acquisition of Hoàn Mỹ and served as its Executive Chairman for more than five years. Under his chairmanship, Hoàn Mỹ grew into Vietnam's largest private hospital network, winning Frost & Sullivan's "Vietnam Hospital Group of the Year" in 2016, 2017, and 2018. He handed over the Hoàn Mỹ chairmanship in 2019 and has also served on the board of The Medical City in the Philippines. He was likewise an early investor and former board director in Indonesian telehealth platform Halodoc.

In 2020 Robinson co-founded and became Managing Partner of HEAL Partners, a growth-stage private equity firm focused on the Health, Education, and Lifestyle sectors. He sits on HEAL's five-member Investment Committee alongside a group of experienced healthcare and education operators and investors.
