Background
P. Mathew Verghese is an Executive Vice President at TXSE Group Inc., where public TXSE materials identify him as part of the executive committee. A July 8, 2025 TXSE release described him as “executive vice president and head of TXSE digital and firmwide strategy,” quoted him on market intelligence, and positioned him in the company’s work building tools for capital markets.
Before joining TXSE, Verghese was a Managing Director at WoodRock & Co., a Houston-based investment bank. WoodRock describes its services as mergers and acquisitions, capital raising, corporate development, financing, and public-securities underwriting. In June 2024, TXSE announced that WoodRock Securities acted as exclusive financial advisor and sole placement agent for TXSE Group Inc.’s initial capitalization.
Earlier in his career, Verghese spent more than a decade at Arthur Andersen & Co., including roles leading the enterprise software group, serving as CFO and head of corporate development for Andersen Business Consulting, and as managing partner of Arthur Andersen Ventures. He later served as president and CEO of EC Outlook, a SaaS provider focused on B2B data integration and middleware.
Verghese also held senior roles in energy and investment banking. He was senior vice president and investment manager in a proprietary energy investments fund within Lehman Brothers’ capital markets group, and joined Global Geophysical Services in March 2009 as senior vice president and CFO. In January 2014, Global Geophysical appointed him Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, with responsibility for worldwide operations and business development. He earned a BBA in finance from the University of Houston and is listed by Star of Hope Mission as a vice chair of its board.
Investment Thesis & Focus
- Publicly available sources do not show a formal personal angel-investing thesis or check size for Verghese.
- His documented investing and advisory history is concentrated in capital formation, corporate development, and financial infrastructure rather than a conventional venture fund model.
- TXSE’s stated market thesis is issuer alignment, transparency, and competition in U.S. public markets. TXSE says its goal is to “provide greater alignment with issuers and investors and address the high cost of going and staying public.”
- His 2025 IBA Silicon Hills session, “Investing in tech startups. Is it still worth it?”, indicates relevance to startup investing, especially Texas technology companies and exits, but the public event page does not disclose a personal stage mandate or check size.
- His background suggests strongest fit with founders building in capital markets, exchange infrastructure, market intelligence, regulated fintech, B2B data integration, and technology-enabled energy or industrial services.
