Background

Matt Bujor is a Principal at Olympus Partners, a Stamford, Connecticut-based private equity firm founded in 1988. Olympus focuses on providing equity capital for middle-market buyouts and companies needing expansion capital, and manages more than $12 billion mainly for pension funds, endowments, and state-sponsored retirement programs.

Bujor joined Olympus in 2018. Before Olympus, he worked as an investment banking analyst at BlackArch Partners in Charlotte, where he focused on mergers and acquisitions. He holds a B.S. from the University of Virginia.

Olympus announced on July 7, 2025 that Bujor and Connor Wood were promoted to Principal. The announcement stated that both joined Olympus in 2018 and became Vice Presidents in 2021.

At Olympus, Bujor is listed with current portfolio company involvement in Accelevation, Excel Fitness, and Omega Holdings. He has also appeared on Olympus deal teams for transactions including Network Connex, Soliant, Rise Baking Company, The Foodware Group, Liquibox, and IXS.

Investment Thesis & Focus

  • Olympus’ investment focus is defined by three criteria: strong management team, growth, and dominant market position.
  • The firm says, “Management is the single greatest determinant of the success of an investment,” and emphasizes aligned equity incentives, mutual trust, and frequent communication with management teams.
  • Olympus looks for growth through new products, geographic expansion, direct sales investment, new channels, and acquisitions of complementary businesses.
  • The firm targets market leaders in defensible niches, saying it looks for enterprises that have established “a dominant position in a defensible niche.”
  • Olympus limits new platform investments to only three or four per year so it can spend more time with portfolio companies.
  • The firm is not a seed investor based on verified sources; its stated mandate is middle-market buyouts and growth capital, with preferred investments from $75 million for growth capital to over $500 million for buyouts.
  • Sector focus includes business services, consumer, financial services, healthcare, industrial, restaurant, and manufacturing.
