Matthew Puopolo

Matt Puopolo is a General Partner at Stage Global Partners, the firm previously branded as StageDotO Ventures (legal entity Stage.O Management LLC), which was founded in 2016 as an early-stage venture fund providing expertise, capital, and services to entrepreneurs from ideation and MVP through Series A/B financings. He has held the General Partner role since roughly 2018 and describes his focus as investment strategy, due diligence, company building, and general management of early-stage, high-growth software and hardware technology businesses.

Before venture investing, Puopolo spent about eight years as an executive at Applied Materials (roughly 2012–2018), serving as Senior Director in the Display & Energy Services business, where he managed acquired technology businesses and was responsible for strategic planning, integrations, and business-unit growth. Earlier, he was Chief Operating Officer and strategic advisor at FreedomPop, and he co-founded and was Managing Partner at Copia Creative. His career also includes roles at Accenture — where he led transformation engagements for Fortune 100 companies — and at his own Polo Consulting.

Puopolo earned a Bachelor's degree in International Finance from the University of Massachusetts Amherst (1994–1998). His operating background across strategy consulting, corporate M&A/integration, and startup operations underpins Stage's stated "builder's mindset" — the firm frames its partners as operators and company-builders rather than passive check-writers.

He has been active in the regional startup ecosystem, including serving as a judge/panelist for the $20K Pitch Competition at Techstars Startup Week Boise in October 2019.
