Matthew West

Matthew E. West is a Philadelphia-rooted investment-management entrepreneur with over 30 years in the wealth-management business. He earned a bachelor's degree in business management from Kutztown University and completed study at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania to obtain the Certified Investment Management Analyst (CIMA®) designation. He sits on the Kutztown University Foundation Board and the University's Investment Committee.

In 1994 West founded West Capital Management, a fee-only registered investment advisory firm in Philadelphia operating under a multi-family-office philosophy and serving institutions and high-net-worth individuals. He built it to over $750 million in assets under management before agreeing to sell the firm to WSFS Financial Corporation in October 2016, after which he continued as President of West Capital Management. WSFS later merged West Capital with Cypress Capital Management, rebranding the combined entity as Bryn Mawr Capital Management, effective January 1, 2023.

In 2010 — while still running West Capital — West founded Long Short Advisors, LLC, where he remains Founder & CEO. He launched the firm after identifying a need for financial advisors to give clients access to hedge-fund and alternative strategies without the lock-ups, restrictions, and illiquidity typical of the space. Long Short Advisors is the sponsor of the LS Opportunity Fund (LSOFX), a publicly available long/short equity mutual fund. The firm now lists an address in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.
