Background

Michael Janicki is a Vancouver-based mergers-and-acquisitions and corporate finance professional with roughly 16+ years of experience advising mid-market private and public companies. He is a Chartered Professional Accountant / Chartered Accountant (CPA-CA) and a Chartered Business Valuator (CBV), and he holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from Simon Fraser University. He began his career in the Corporate Finance Group at KPMG, where he performed business valuations, M&A advisory engagements, and assurance work for mid-market clients.

In 2011 he joined Capital West Partners, one of Western Canada's most active mid-market transaction-advisory firms (the firm has advised clients such as lululemon, Aritzia, Canfor, A&W, The Keg, and Harbour Air over its history). At Capital West, Michael rose to Partner and advised clients across a wide range of industries on mergers and acquisitions, restructurings, financings, and divestitures.

More recently, Michael co-founded Summit Capital Advisors, an independent, employee-owned M&A advisory firm in Vancouver, alongside fellow Capital West alumnus Nick Bester (also a CPA-CA, CBV). Summit describes its founders as having roughly 35–40 years of combined experience across an established investment bank and a Big Four firm, having advised on more than 60 transactions totaling over $4 billion in value. The firm offers mergers, acquisitions and divestitures, corporate finance advisory, restructuring, and valuations and fairness opinions, and is based at #600 – 777 Hornby Street, Vancouver, BC.

Because his work is sell-side / buy-side M&A advisory for established mid-market businesses, "angel investor / seed round" is not an accurate description of his role; founders seeking seed capital are unlikely to be his target, while owners of profitable, established companies looking to sell, buy, merge, or recapitalize are.

Investment Thesis & Focus

  • Focus is advisory, not primary angel/venture investing: helping owners of established mid-market companies buy, sell, merge, recapitalize, or finance — not writing seed checks.
  • Deal size and profile: lower-middle-market and mid-market private and public companies, consistent with Capital West's and Summit's mandates; sector-agnostic with strength in industrials, consumer products, business services, software, and clean energy.
  • Summit's own positioning: an "independent M&A advisory firm... focused on delivering exceptional outcomes for mid-market businesses and shareholders," emphasizing being "100% independent and fully aligned" with clients as an employee-owned firm.
  • Value proposition rests on valuation rigor (CPA/CBV credentials) and negotiated outcomes — "Maximizing Value. Delivering Success."

Notable Investments

  • Portable Electric (clean/mobile power) — Summit Capital Advisors acted as exclusive financial advisor to Portable Electric on a strategic investment from Atraxis Capital, backing growth in clean, mobile power solutions.
  • Capital West Partners deal experience — during his tenure, Michael advised on numerous mid-market M&A, divestiture, financing, and restructuring transactions across Western Canada (firm-level clients over time have included names such as lululemon, Aritzia, Canfor, A&W, The Keg, and Harbour Air). Specific deals attributable solely to Michael were not individually documented in public sources.
