Background

Mike McSherry is a Seattle-based serial entrepreneur and angel investor best known as co-founder and CEO of Xealth, a digital health platform that lets providers prescribe and monitor digital health content, apps, devices, and services from EHR workflows. Xealth was incubated inside Providence St. Joseph Health, spun out in 2017, and was acquired by Samsung Electronics in October 2025.

Before Xealth, McSherry was CEO of Swype, the touchscreen keyboard technology installed on more than 1 billion devices and sold to Nuance for more than $100 million in 2011. Earlier, he co-founded Boost Mobile in Australia and the United States, where he led product management and data services; Boost later became Sprint's prepaid service with several billion dollars in annual revenue. He also co-founded Zivo, described in his bio as the largest web development company in Australia and New Zealand, and worked at Microsoft in product roles including MSN portal and e-commerce activities in Australia.

McSherry studied at William & Mary. He has described himself as a "startup guy" with more than 20 years in tech startups, saying he has been successful exiting four of five companies he started. His public roles also include board positions with Hiya, Continuous Path, Flowvella, HyperSciences, and Pacific Medical Center, plus angel investing across companies including Apptentive, Glowforge, Context Relevant, Flowboard, Madrona Venture Labs, Founders Co-op, and others listed on his LinkedIn profile.

Investment Thesis & Focus

  • Invests as an angel in seed-stage companies, with public profiles listing seed as his stage and healthcare, mobile, software, data, IoT, SaaS, digital therapeutics, and healthcare IT among his markets.
  • Strong pattern of backing founders in Seattle / Pacific Northwest startup networks, often alongside operators and local angels such as Geoff Entress, Dan Shapiro, and Founders Co-op.
  • Looks for large technology shifts where operating experience matters. In a William & Mary interview, he described riding early internet and early mobile waves, then moving into healthcare because it had "big problems, big issues" and potential for meaningful impact.
  • Places heavy weight on teams and execution. In the same interview, he said a startup CEO's role is to communicate vision, sell that vision to investors, hires, and customers, hire well, and "don't run out of cash."
  • In healthcare, his stated focus is practical workflow integration: Xealth's thesis is that digital health tools should fit into clinician workflows and connect doctors and patients through everyday technologies.

Notable Investments

  • Apptentive - Mobile customer feedback and engagement platform; McSherry participated in the company's $1.2 million seed round in 2012 alongside Google Ventures, Founders Co-op, Social Leverage, Golden Venture Partners, and Seattle angels.
  • Context Relevant - Big data analytics startup; McSherry and other Swype/Nuance executives invested in its $1.3 million seed round led by Madrona Venture Group in 2012.
  • Glowforge - 3D laser printer company; McSherry was listed as an angel/backer in its early financing, including the 2014 angel round and as a previous seed investor when it raised a $9 million Series A in 2015.
  • Flowboard / Flowvella - Presentation software company; McSherry was listed as a board member and angel backer in 2013.
  • Madrona Venture Labs - Seattle startup studio; McSherry participated as an operating-executive investor in its $8 million 2021 fund and returned as an investor in its $11 million 2023 fund for AI founders.
  • Founders Co-op - Seattle early-stage fund; McSherry was identified as one of the Seattle technology backers of its $8 million angel fund in 2012.
