Background
Michael Samek is a Boston-based private equity investor. He earned a BA in Administration of Justice from Salve Regina University (roughly 2010–2014), where he competed in NCAA Division I lacrosse and tennis. Before entering investing, he worked in product management at J.P. Morgan in Boston and in business development at Resilient Systems (later acquired by IBM as IBM Resilient).
At Brook Venture Partners (Wakefield, MA), Samek served as an Associate. In that role he worked alongside portfolio companies on growth initiatives through M&A — sourcing and evaluating bolt-on/add-on acquisition targets, engaging with company executives on strategic matters, and identifying accretive opportunities. Brook Venture has, since 1998, invested in or acquired controlling interest in 40+ expansion-stage companies across the Northeastern and Mid-Atlantic U.S., focusing on healthcare IT and tech-enabled services and offering hands-on CFO and corporate-development support. The firm rebranded as 424 Capital in November 2019, where Samek continued and rose to Vice President.
In 2025, Samek co-founded Vetta Growth Partners with Ray Jorgensen (based in Parrish, FL, with a background running healthcare/RCM businesses such as PMG Credentialing and Patient360). Vetta describes itself as a "value-driven private equity firm focused on backing founder-owned businesses in healthcare & tech-enabled B2B services." Outside of work, Samek has officiated NCAA Division I ice hockey for the Atlantic Hockey Conference.
Investment Thesis & Focus
- Invests in founder-owned businesses in healthcare and tech-enabled B2B services — Vetta's stated focus is "backing founder-owned businesses in healthcare & tech-enabled B2B services."
- Sector emphasis on healthcare IT, revenue cycle management (RCM), and data-driven, tech-enabled services.
- Operates at the growth/expansion stage and lower-middle-market buyout level, not early-stage/seed — a control-oriented, value-creation approach ("value-driven private equity").
- Brings an M&A / buy-and-build orientation: at Brook Venture / 424 Capital his work centered on sourcing and executing add-on acquisitions and partnering with management on growth strategy.
- Offers more than capital — the Brook Venture/424 model pairs investment with hands-on operational support (CFO services, corporate development) to build market leaders.
Notable Investments
- Brook Venture Partners / 424 Capital portfolio — 40+ expansion-stage companies in healthcare software, education technology, and tech-enabled services across the Northeast/Mid-Atlantic; Samek supported bolt-on acquisitions for portfolio companies.
- Vetta Growth Partners — newly launched (2025) platform targeting founder-owned healthcare and tech-enabled B2B services businesses; portfolio still being built.
