Background

Miguel Alonzo is the Founder and Managing Director of CFSM (Corporate Finance Services México), a Mexico City–based boutique investment bank and M&A advisory firm that he has led since the early 2000s. CFSM operates as the Mexico City office of Corporate Finance Associates Worldwide and advises mid-market companies on mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, fundraising, valuations, fairness opinions and restructurings. Alonzo brings more than twenty-five years of professional experience across investment banking, M&A, private equity, strategic consulting and corporate finance, and notes that CFSM's investment banking team is the firm's sole shareholder — keeping mandates partner-led.

Before founding CFSM, Alonzo was a partner at Crown Capital Latin America LLC, a Latin American private equity firm, where he invested in companies including Fresh Direct Inc., a New York City–based processor and distributor of perishable foods. Earlier in his career he worked at Telefónica, served as an Associate in the Mergers & Acquisitions group of Credit Suisse First Boston in New York City, and was a strategic consultant at McKinsey & Co. in Mexico City. He began his career in finance as a stockbroker at Afin Casa de Bolsa and has been a Financial Advisor certified by Mexico's Comisión Nacional Bancaria y de Valores (CNBV) since 1992.

Alonzo holds an MBA from Harvard Business School and a Bachelor's degree in Economics from the Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México (ITAM), where he was student body president from 1991 to 1992; he has also completed a Senior Management program at IE Business School. He currently teaches in the Business and Accounting Department at ITAM and is an active member of the Board of Directors of several Mexican companies and not-for-profit organizations.

Investment Thesis & Focus

  • Primary vehicle is advisory-led M&A and growth capital for mid-market companies in Mexico and Latin America, rather than early-stage venture checks.
  • Works both buy-side and sell-side, providing "growth capital, strategic direction and operational expertise" to established mid-market firms.
  • Sector-agnostic in practice, with demonstrated depth in food & beverage, education, restaurants/franchising, distribution, insurance and infrastructure.
  • Personal investing skews toward private equity and board-level involvement (a legacy of his Crown Capital PE partnership) rather than seed-stage startups.
  • Emphasizes aligned, partner-owned mandates — the banking team is the sole shareholder of CFSM.

Notable Investments

  • Fresh Direct Inc. — NYC perishable-foods processor/distributor; a personal private-equity investment made during his time as a partner at Crown Capital Latin America.
  • Bimbo / D'Gari — food & beverage sector transactions advised by CFSM.
  • Universidad Insurgentes / Universidad Latinoamericana — education-sector deals.
  • Alsea (Burger King) / Domino's Pizza — restaurant and franchise transactions.
  • Andino / AMCO Internacional — distribution-sector deals.
  • Interprotección — insurance-sector transaction.
