Background
Mike Wohl is the Chief Investment Officer of CEAS Investments, the single-family office of billionaire Leslie Alexander, the former owner of the NBA's Houston Rockets. Wohl joined CEAS in 2013 as its Investment Manager, launching an internal venture capital fund for the family office and taking responsibility for the full cycle of early- and growth-stage investing in non-public technology companies. In 2017 he was elevated to Chief Investment Officer, a role in which he confers with the principal on strategy and manager selection across all asset classes and manages the firm's investment team.
Before CEAS, Wohl worked as a client-facing financial advisor at a boutique private wealth management firm based in Potomac, Maryland. Across his tenure he has built a portfolio concentrated in enterprise and data-focused software, and he holds active board roles: he is a board member of SqlDBM and a board observer for Fivetran, FourKites, ONRAMP, and One Model.
Wohl graduated from Amherst College with a BA in Economics and Spanish, where he was an All-American soccer player; he continues to serve on the Board of Directors of Friends of Amherst Athletics. He earned his MBA from the MIT Sloan School of Management, during which time he devised a quantitative college-football investing strategy.
CEAS Investments describes itself as "an investment vehicle within a single family office with capital of a top venture firm, complete flexibility on stage and check size, and a very aggressive risk appetite." Founded in 2013 and based in Delray Beach, Florida, the firm invests the personal capital of Leslie Alexander, who began his career as an attorney and bond trader and is known for backing early-stage, often diverse or socially-aware ventures. Wohl works alongside junior partners Ronnie Martinez (joined 2018) and Blake Hatten (joined 2022).
Investment Thesis & Focus
- Invests as a single-family office deploying permanent, patient capital — "capital of a top venture firm" without external LP fundraising cycles, allowing long holding periods.
- Emphasizes flexibility on stage and check size and a stated "very aggressive risk appetite," participating from seed and Series A through growth/pre-IPO rounds.
- Strong concentration in data infrastructure, analytics, and B2B/enterprise SaaS — e.g., Fivetran (data movement), FourKites (supply-chain visibility), SqlDBM (data modeling), One Model (HR analytics), Dataminr (real-time signals).
- Comfortable taking active governance roles (board seats and board-observer positions), signaling a hands-on, long-term partnership posture rather than passive checks.
- Also backs socially-aware and consumer/fintech bets consistent with principal Leslie Alexander's interests — e.g., Hello Divorce, Betty (inclusive online gambling), SoLo Funds (peer-to-peer lending).
