Background

Missy Krasner is a veteran digital-health operator, investor, and board member with 30+ years across government, big tech, startups, and venture capital. She earned a B.A. in English Literature (with a Theatre minor) from UCLA and an M.A. from Stanford University in healthcare policy, communications, and business/health administration. Early in her career she worked in health-information organizations including a role tied to the Kaiser Family Foundation and at CareScience, a publicly traded digital-health startup that built one of the first Health Information Exchanges (HIE).

In the mid-2000s she served at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services under President George W. Bush, helping to stand up the inaugural Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) and contributing to policy work that fed into the HITECH Act. She was subsequently one of the founding executives of Google Health, leading Google's first entry into healthcare across product, marketing, and business development. She then moved into venture capital at Morgenthaler Ventures (a ~$3B firm later rebranded as Canvas Ventures), where she led Series A and B digital-health investments.

After her VC tenure she was VP & Managing Director of Healthcare & Life Sciences at Box, where she helped launch the company's industries division and led its first healthcare-related corporate acquisition. In 2017 she joined Amazon, working on special projects and strategic partnerships for Alexa Health & Wellness. She later joined Redesign Health — a New York–based venture studio that has launched and funded 70+ healthcare companies — as a Venture Chair, helping incubate and stand up new startups.

Most recently she co-founded Penguin AI (founded 2024), an AI platform for healthcare administrative workflows, where she served as interim President & COO and now sits as Co-Founder & Advisor. Penguin AI raised a Series B in September 2025, bringing total funding to roughly $29.7M.

Investment Thesis & Focus

  • Champions building the "unsexy" infrastructure of healthcare — billing, credentialing, clinical documentation, and other back-office workflows — over flashy consumer plays.
  • Invests across digital health broadly: B2B2C, enterprise software, consumer, reimbursement-model, and marketplace businesses, spanning virtual and in-person care.
  • Wants business-model clarity: "you have to know how your company is going to make money over the long run."
  • Wants healthcare domain expertise on the team — at minimum one co-founder or executive with industry experience, or tech founders backed by deep healthcare advisors.
  • Wants aligned investors who understand healthcare's realities: long B2B sales cycles, incumbent-partnership strategies, and slow capital-deployment timelines.
  • On why healthcare is hard: "healthcare has complicated and opaque buyers, it has regulatory hurdles…hard to change everyday work habits."

Notable Investments

  • Doximity — professional network for physicians (later IPO'd); Series A/B era investment via Morgenthaler.
  • Practice Fusion — cloud-based EHR platform (acquired by Allscripts).
  • Vida Health — virtual chronic-condition and behavioral-health care.
  • HealthLoop — automated patient follow-up/engagement platform.
  • Viewics — healthcare data analytics (acquired by Roche).
  • Penguin AI — co-founded 2024; AI platform for healthcare administrative workflows; raised Series B (Sept 2025), ~$29.7M total.
  • Redesign Health portfolio — as Venture Chair, involved in incubating/launching new healthcare startups from the venture studio (70+ companies launched to date).
