Background

Sir Mohamed Mansour is an Egyptian-born business leader, investor, and philanthropist. He chairs the Mansour Group, a diversified conglomerate founded by his father Loutfy Mansour in 1952. Forbes reports that the group employs about 60,000 people and that Mansour built General Motors dealerships in Egypt starting in 1975, later becoming one of GM's largest distributors worldwide. The group also has Caterpillar distribution rights in Egypt and several African countries.

Mansour studied engineering at North Carolina State University, graduating in 1968, and earned an MBA from Auburn University in 1971. Man Capital says he taught at Auburn until 1973 and received an honorary doctorate from NC State in 2022. He served as Egypt's Minister of Transport from early 2006 until October 2009.

In 2010, Mansour founded Man Capital LLP in London with his son Loutfy Mansour. Man Capital is the Mansour family's global investment arm and describes itself as a long-term investor across education, healthcare, logistics, renewable energy, real estate, technology, telecommunications, and sport. The firm says it has invested in or supported early-stage companies including Facebook, Twitter, Spotify, Uber, Airbnb, and Didi, and helped found 1984 Ventures in 2017.

Mansour also became closely involved with Riipen, the Vancouver-based experiential learning platform. LearnLaunch reported that Riipen closed a $1.0M Series Seed round led by angel investor Mohamed Mansour in early 2017; Riipen later identified him as Executive Chairman in its August 2017 acquisition announcement for Prollster and listed his Riipen email as the press contact.

Investment Thesis & Focus

  • Man Capital states that it invests "for the long term in companies across a range of sectors" and looks for companies "led by people with potential" that can create value for communities as well as shareholders.
  • Mansour's stated thesis: "When I founded Man Capital, I wanted us to invest not only for today and tomorrow, but for the long term - to back outstanding businesses and great management teams and reshape lives and communities for the better."
  • Early-stage technology is an explicit focus: Man Capital says it supports "highly promising, early-stage ventures" and was early in companies such as Facebook, Spotify, Uber, Airbnb, and Didi.
  • Education is a recurring theme. Man Capital calls education "the most important driver of social mobility globally," and Mansour personally led Riipen's Series Seed round in 2017.
  • Sports investments are framed as both business and opportunity creation: Man Capital's Right to Dream investment supports academies, clubs, and schools, including San Diego FC, FC Nordsjaelland, and FC Masar.
  • Africa and high-growth markets matter to the platform: Man Capital cites its global network, high-growth-market relationships, African energy-transition focus, and investments such as IHS Towers, Infinity, and Echolab.
