Background
Monika Nachyła is a Partner at Abris Capital Partners, a CEE-focused mid-market private equity firm founded in 2007 with roughly €1.3bn under management. At Abris she sits on the Investment Committee and leads the firm's ESG agenda — she is the Partner directly responsible for ESG integration across the portfolio, coordinates the firm's ESG efforts, and manages ESG communication with Abris's Limited Partners. Her remit also spans investor relations, communications, and monitoring of portfolio businesses. She has more than two decades in the private equity industry, working with PE firms operating across Central and Eastern Europe.
Her earlier career combined audit, corporate finance and banking. She trained as an auditor at Arthur Andersen in Poland and Salustro Reydel in France (both then "Big Six"–era firms), served as a finance director (including a CFO/finance-director role associated with Sanofi), and held a management-board position for strategy and development at BGŻ Bank. Her banking and risk-management experience spans institutions including BNP Paribas Bank Polska, Bank BGŻ, Allianz Polska and Euler Hermes.
Nachyła is an active non-executive director. She serves on the Supervisory Board and the Audit and Strategy Committees of Orange Polska S.A., and on the Supervisory Board of the Graal Group. In June 2024, after ECB approval, she was appointed to the Supervisory Board and as Chair of the Audit Committee of Šiaulių Bankas in Lithuania. She has previously chaired Abris portfolio companies such as Velvet CARE and Mykogen, and has sat on portfolio boards linked to Innova Capital and Enterprise Investors.
She is a graduate of the Warsaw School of Economics (SGH), with postgraduate studies in Social Psychology and Food Studies at SWPS University and in Agriculture at the Warsaw University of Life Sciences (SGGW). She founded the Polish chapter of Level 20 (which promotes women's careers in private equity) and chairs it, sits on the UN Global Compact Network Poland advisory body, and is a former board member of the Polish Private Equity & Venture Capital Association (PSIK).
Investment Thesis & Focus
- Backs majority stakes in profitable CEE mid-market businesses, chiefly in Poland and Romania, typically with equity tickets around €20–40m (historically up to €75m).
- Sector-agnostic but concentrated in B2B services, consumer products/services, and specialized manufacturing, with growing weight in technology and healthcare.
- Explicitly positions Abris as an "ESG transformation specialist" — the thesis is that ESG excellence drives both risk mitigation and long-term returns, not just compliance.
- Personally focused on value creation with management teams: she describes the appeal of the job as watching "businesses and teams grow and flourish" where "you can have a huge impact."
- Looks for companies where operational and strategic improvement (governance, ESG, professionalization) can materially lift value under Abris ownership.
Notable Investments
- Velvet CARE — Poland's leading tissue/hygiene manufacturer; Abris grew it over ~5 years and sold it to Partners Group in December 2023 (Nachyła served as chair). A flagship Abris exit.
- Mykogen — the largest Central European producer of mushroom substrate; successful Abris exit in 2017 (she chaired the company).
- Graal Group — Polish producer of fish and prepared/canned foods; she serves on its Supervisory Board.
- Green Group (GreenWay/Green Group) — Romania-based recycling company handling PET, glass, batteries and e-waste across Southeast Europe; part of the Abris portfolio.
