Background
Morgan Livermore is a long-time enterprise and infrastructure investor who has worked with founders since roughly 2011. He earned a BA from Dartmouth College, majoring in government with a minor in "Markets, Management, and the Economy." While at Dartmouth he co-owned and operated Evolving Vox, described as Dartmouth's first furniture-rental company — an early entrepreneurial venture that informs his founder-first orientation.
He began his career as an investment banker at Vista Point Advisors, advising self-funded founders through capital raises and company sales. He then joined Accel, working on its Growth Fund with founders who had bootstrapped their companies to product-market fit; there he was associated with investments in companies including GoFundMe, PagerDuty, BrowserStack, and Algolia.
From roughly 2017 to 2021, Livermore was a Partner at Geodesic Capital, a growth-stage firm known for helping portfolio companies expand internationally, especially into the Japanese market. There he focused on emerging enterprise applications, DevOps, IT infrastructure, and consumer mobile and autonomous-vehicle technologies, and worked with portfolio companies such as Tanium and Instart Logic. He wrote publicly about go-to-market strategy for Japan (e.g., his Medium piece "Key Lessons for Entering the Japanese Market").
After Geodesic, Livermore was a Partner at Quiet Capital (2021–2023), where he led growth strategy, before founding Supercruise, where he is Founder & Managing Partner. Supercruise is named after modern jets' ability to sustain supersonic flight without afterburners — a metaphor for companies built for efficient, sustained growth. He publishes a Substack newsletter, "The Afterburner."
Investment Thesis & Focus
- Invests across seed through Series C, historically writing checks from ~$10K up to ~$35M, with a sweet spot near $5M.
- Concentrates on enterprise and infrastructure software: DevOps, developer tools, cloud infrastructure, cybersecurity, data, AI/generative tech, and SaaS.
- Supercruise thesis: many great companies will now be built leveraging cloud and AI to reach the scale of last decade's leaders "with significantly fewer resources" — the firm backs founders "structurally building their companies for efficient sustained growth," arguing that "efficient innovation is the most important fight of our time."
- On defensibility in the AI era: he argues traditional moats (workflow ownership, data lock-in, switching costs) are incomplete, and durable advantage now comes from technical depth (superior API design, machine-readable docs that let AI agents adopt products autonomously) and domain expertise, not feature parity.
- In his own words on quality compounding: *"I would much rather own a 20 to 30% compounding software company for the next decade than certain other more legacy businesses."*
- Distinctive value-add from his Geodesic years: helping U.S. startups enter and scale in Japan and other international markets.
