Background

Nathan Buzza (born 26 November 1970, Perth) is an Australian entrepreneur and investor best known for founding clinical middleware company CommtechWireless. He co-founded the business with Zane Lewis in 1992 and built it into a multinational supplier of middleware clinical-workflow software, with offices in Perth, Sydney, Jacksonville, Hong Kong, Shenzhen, Vejle (Denmark) and London, deploying its technology across thousands of healthcare sites worldwide. He served as principal shareholder, CEO and Chief Technologist. He was educated at Scotch College, Perth, and attended Curtin University (Bachelor of Commerce / Business).

In 2008 Buzza negotiated the trade sale of CommtechWireless to Amcom Software and remained as General Manager for roughly 18 months post-acquisition. In 2010, Amcom Software was itself acquired by USA Mobility (now Spok) for approximately US$163.8 million. His entrepreneurial work earned him Ernst & Young "Entrepreneur of the Year (Young)" in 2002, a Business News "40 Under 40 — 1st Amongst Equals" award in 2003, Ernst & Young "Entrepreneur of the Year" in 2005, and the Western Australia IT&T "Lifetime Achievement Award" in 2006.

In 2011 Buzza established Allure Capital, a boutique angel/private-equity firm providing seed capital to technology-oriented businesses, preferably in the healthcare, mobile and technology space. He has since held a range of industry roles, including management consultant at Austco (a subsidiary of Azure Healthcare Limited, ASX:AZV) from around 2012–2014, advisory board member at NiQ Healthcare, and General Partner in private equity firm Future Health. He was a director of Alcidion Group and Alcidion Corporation (ASX:ALC), reportedly serving as an Executive Director from around May 2014 to December 2017.

Investment Thesis & Focus

  • Invests seed and early-stage capital, typically ranging from ~AUD $50,000 up to $1,000,000 per investment.
  • Focuses on technology-oriented businesses that "demonstrate a propensity towards high volume growth" and need both working capital and management assistance — i.e., he brings operating help, not just money.
  • Strong sector bias toward healthcare, health IT / clinical middleware, mobile, and enterprise/communication software — mirroring his own operating background at CommtechWireless.
  • Describes Allure Capital as offering "seed capital to firms in the healthcare and technology industry," positioning it as a hands-on boutique rather than a passive angel.

Notable Investments

  • Alcidion Group / Alcidion Corporation (ASX:ALC) — Health-informatics and clinical decision-support company; Buzza was a director/executive director and Allure's most recent recorded investment (listed around 31 March 2015).
  • Austco Healthcare (Azure Healthcare, ASX:AZV) — Nurse-call and healthcare communications; Buzza also consulted to the business.
  • CommtechWireless — His own founding company (clinical middleware/communication software); the CommtechWireless-related entity appears among Allure's associated holdings.
  • Portfolio aggregators (CB Insights, PitchBook) classify Allure's activity across Practice Management (Healthcare), Enterprise Systems (Healthcare), and Communication Software.
