Background
Navtej Singh Nandra is a financial-services executive with more than three decades of experience spanning management consulting and global banking. He holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Delhi. Early in his career he worked in consulting at firms including Booz Allen & Hamilton and The Cambridge Group before moving into senior financial-services leadership.
At Merrill Lynch, Nandra held a series of executive roles, serving as Chief Operating Officer of Global Investment Banking and later as Head of Diversified Financial Services and Chief Operating Officer of Global Wealth Management. He subsequently joined Morgan Stanley, where he led Morgan Stanley Investment Management's international business (Head of International / CEO of Morgan Stanley Investment Management Ltd.) from roughly 2010 to 2013, growing international assets under management by over 60% during his tenure, and also served as Chief Strategy Officer for Real Estate Investing and Merchant Banking. He sat on the boards of Morgan Stanley Huaxin Fund Management, Morgan Stanley International, Nuveen Investments, and Merrill Lynch India Technology Services.
In May 2013, Nandra was named President of E*TRADE Financial Corporation, overseeing the firm's core US retail brokerage franchise (an online broker with over $300bn in customer assets). He led the retail business during E*TRADE's post-crisis turnaround period.
Since leaving E*TRADE, Nandra has built a portfolio of board and investing roles. In May 2017 he was appointed a non-executive director of OakNorth Bank, the UK SME lender and fintech. He has also served as a Venture Partner at Secocha Ventures (a seed-stage VC investing largely in India-based startups) and held independent director seats at Indian financial-services groups Edelweiss Financial Services (term ended September 2022) and Nuvama Wealth Management (formerly Edelweiss Securities; he later resigned), along with board roles connected to Pidilite and other companies.
Investment Thesis & Focus
- Invests and serves on boards primarily in financial services and fintech, where his operating experience (brokerage, wealth management, asset management) is most relevant.
- Active at the seed stage — both as a board-joining angel/strategic investor in early fintech and through his Venture Partner role at Secocha Ventures, which focuses on seed-round investments (with a notable India tilt) across consumer, retail, and enterprise software.
- Tends to back companies in private credit, securitization, and capital-markets infrastructure — areas adjacent to his career — bringing institutional credibility and board-level governance rather than purely passive capital.
- Value-add is operational and strategic: scaling international/retail financial businesses, governance, and access to large financial-institution networks.
Notable Investments
- Cadence — fintech securitization / private-credit platform (later operating under Percent). Nandra joined the board as part of Cadence's $4M seed round (closed December 2019, announced April 2020), led by Revel VC, alongside investors including Morgan Creek Digital, Nimble Ventures, Argo, Tuesday Capital, and Recharge Capital.
- OakNorth Bank / OakNorth Holdings — UK SME-lending fintech; non-executive director since 2017 (board/strategic role rather than a venture check).
- Secocha Ventures — Venture Partner at the seed-stage fund, contributing to its early-stage portfolio across consumer and enterprise sectors.
