Background

Nick Stanley is a Managing Partner at Crown Point Partners, a Portland, Oregon investment bank he co-founded in 2022 with Rodger Adams after the retirement of founding partner Gayle Veber. The pair spun the practice out of Veber Partners LLC, the private investment bank (founded 1989) where Stanley had worked since 2001. His career has centered on sell-side and buy-side representation, private placements, and corporate finance for lower-middle-market companies across the Pacific Northwest.

Stanley's path into investment banking ran through operating a company himself. After earning a Bachelor's degree from Georgetown University (Finance, with study also noted in psychology; BSBA in Finance, ~1984–1987), he began his career at CMS Companies, a Philadelphia private investment banking firm (1987–1990) that worked with entrepreneurs on wealth building, private-equity placement, and estate planning. He returned to Portland in 1991 and acquired Fine Arts Graphics, a corporate stationery manufacturer, serving as President and CEO. In 1999 he hired Veber Partners to sell the company to ImageX.com, stayed through its 2000 IPO, and then joined Veber Partners as a partner in 2001.

Beyond banking, Stanley has been an active corporate and civic board member. He has served on the boards of Motive Power Industries (NYSE: MPI), biotech company ProteoGenix, and Mass Ingenuity, and on nonprofit/advisory boards including the OHSU Foundation, the OHSU Knight Cancer Council, the OHSU Center for Regenerative Medicine, OHSU Global, St. Anthony Village Enterprise, and Services for All Generations. He maintains a FINRA Series 7 securities license.

Since 1995, Stanley has also served as the Honorary Consul General to the Kingdom of Thailand for the Pacific Northwest, a diplomatic role run from his Portland office, reflecting long-standing ties to the region's international business community.

Investment Thesis & Focus

  • Works chiefly as an M&A advisor and financial intermediary to owners of privately held, lower-middle-market companies, not as a conventional seed-stage venture investor — the "angel / seed round" label attached to his contact record does not match his primary, verifiable activity.
  • Describes his own approach as that of a "financial engineer, negotiator, tactician, and strategic thinker" who helps business owners meet their sale objectives (Crown Point Partners bio).
  • Sector breadth mirrors his firm's mandate: manufacturing/distribution, technology and software, business/professional services, consumer/retail, energy, and healthcare.
  • Early-stage exposure comes primarily through board and advisory seats (e.g., ProteoGenix in biotech, Mass Ingenuity) rather than a published check-writing thesis.
  • Values founders/owners who want a disciplined, relationship-driven process to build, transfer, or exit wealth — a theme running from his CMS Companies days through Crown Point Partners.
