Background

Nikesh Arora (born February 9, 1968, in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, India) is an Indian-American technology executive and one of the highest-paid CEOs in the United States. He earned a B.Tech in electrical engineering from the Institute of Technology at Banaras Hindu University (IIT-BHU Varanasi) in 1989, then moved to the U.S. for graduate studies, completing an M.S. in finance at Boston College and an MBA at Northeastern University. He has held the CFA designation since 1999. He began his career at Fidelity Investments in 1992, rising to VP of Finance at Fidelity Technologies.

Arora spent a decade at Google (2004–2014), where he rose through senior commercial roles — VP of Europe operations, President of EMEA, President of Global Sales Operations and Business Development, and ultimately Senior Vice President and Chief Business Officer — becoming one of the company's most senior and highest-paid executives. Earlier, from roughly 2000–2004, he founded T-Motion PLC (later merged into T-Mobile) and served as CMO of T-Mobile International, a division of Deutsche Telekom.

In 2014 he joined SoftBank Group as President and Chief Operating Officer under Masayoshi Son, where his compensation of more than $200 million set a Japanese pay record at the time; he departed in 2016. Since June 2018 he has been Chairman and CEO of Palo Alto Networks, where he has driven an aggressive platformization and acquisition strategy (Demisto, Twistlock, Bridgecrew, Talon, Dig Security, and others) and led the company to a multi-hundred-billion-dollar market capitalization. His Palo Alto Networks compensation reached $151.4 million in 2023. His net worth has been estimated at roughly $1.5 billion (Bloomberg, 2024).

Beyond his operating role, Arora is an active board member and investor. He is a non-executive director (and, since April 2025, Lead Independent Director) of luxury group Compagnie Financière Richemont, was elected to Uber's board in 2025, and has served as a senior advisor to Silver Lake Partners. He has also sat on boards including HeadSpin, Moveworks, Sprint, Colgate-Palmolive, and Yahoo! Japan.

Investment Thesis & Focus

  • Invests his own capital as an angel, with a reported portfolio of 20+ companies concentrated in AI, cybersecurity, fintech, and enterprise automation — areas that mirror his operating expertise.
  • Backs themes of data intelligence, automation, and the future of enterprise technology, favoring technical, founder-led teams attacking large enterprise markets.
  • Participates across stages — from pre-seed and seed to later Series A/B and growth rounds — rather than confining himself to one entry point.
  • Brings unusual operator credibility: a sitting cybersecurity CEO and former Google/SoftBank executive, so he gravitates to companies where his enterprise go-to-market and security insight is additive.
  • Has extended his thesis into crypto/digital assets (e.g., backing Bitwise) and AI-native applications (e.g., Factory, RunSybil, Legora).

Notable Investments

  • Factory — AI software-engineering/agent platform; participated in its Series B (Sept 2025).
  • Bitwise Asset Management — crypto index and digital-asset manager; joined a ~$70M equity raise.
  • Arta Finance — digital wealth-management platform ("private bank in your pocket") founded by ex-Google executives.
  • Legora — AI platform for legal work; participated in a $50M Series D-II (2026).
  • RunSybil — AI-driven offensive security / pentesting startup; Series A (~$40M, 2026).
  • Calibre — pre-seed round (~$3.3M, 2026).
  • Pensero AI — AI startup in his enterprise/automation focus area.
  • Verse — consumer payments app; acquired by Block (formerly Square) in 2020 (exit).
  • Netomi — AI customer-service automation; board/advisory involvement.
