Background
Ori Birnboim is a Partner at One Equity Partners, which he joined in 2013. Over his tenure he has worked on numerous investments across the automotive, energy, services, and technology industries, and he is now based in the firm's Frankfurt office, reflecting OEP's active European deal focus.
Before joining OEP, Birnboim co-founded an emerging-markets-focused M&A advisory firm, which he sold in 2012. Earlier in his career he worked in the investment-banking division of CIBC Capital Markets in Toronto and New York. He earned a B.Com. in Finance and Economics from the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto (roughly 2003–2007), graduating cum laude.
One Equity Partners itself was originally the private merchant-banking arm of JPMorgan Chase and became an independent firm in 2015. It pursues a "transformative combination" strategy — acquiring and merging complementary middle-market businesses to build market leaders — and invests in the industrial, healthcare, and technology sectors across North America and Europe. Birnboim's work sits inside that mandate rather than in early-stage venture or angel investing.
As is standard for a private-equity deal partner, Birnboim serves (or has served) on the boards of directors of several OEP portfolio companies, including Armis, Nexion, BRUSH, and PGW (Pittsburgh Glass Works / Vitro Automotive Glass), and he has been involved in a number of OEP's realized (exited) investments.
Investment Thesis & Focus
- Stage: Control-oriented buyouts and growth-capital investments in middle-market companies — not seed or angel deals.
- Strategy: OEP's core value-creation lever is the "transformative combination" — merging like-sized, highly complementary middle-market businesses to reduce duplicative costs and create market leaders.
- Sectors: Firm-wide focus on industrial, healthcare, and technology; Birnboim's own deals cluster in automotive, energy, business services, and technology.
- Geography: North America and Europe; Birnboim personally covers European deals from Frankfurt.
- In his own words (on the Armis deal): *"Armis is one of the industry leaders when it comes to asset visibility and security. We see a growing need for enterprises in a unified offering, and we are excited to work together with our partners to further accelerate the growth trajectory of the company and safeguard assets around the world."*
Notable Investments
- Armis — Asset-cybersecurity platform; OEP led a ~$300 million investment (Nov 2021) alongside existing investors to accelerate platform development, global go-to-market, and M&A. Birnboim represents OEP on the board. The round valued Armis at roughly $3.4 billion.
- BRUSH — Power-generation equipment / electrical-engineering business; Birnboim led this OEP investment.
- Nexion — OEP portfolio company where Birnboim holds a board seat.
- PGW (Pittsburgh Glass Works / Vitro Automotive Glass) — Automotive glass manufacturer; Birnboim serves/served on the board (aligns with his automotive-sector deal history).
