Background
Oscar Guardianelli is a long-time Argentine business executive turned entrepreneur and venture investor. He spent more than two decades at Grupo Arcor — one of Latin America's largest food and confectionery companies — where he served as a general/operations manager (referred to in Spanish-language press as "exgerente general del grupo Arcor"). That tenure put him at the center of one of Córdoba's flagship industrial groups before he transitioned out of corporate management.
After leaving Arcor (reported around 2010), Guardianelli moved into entrepreneurship, founding four companies — two tied to the construction sector and two productive ventures in fields unrelated to the food industry — based in the city of Córdoba and the surrounding provincial interior. This shift from salaried executive to multi-company founder shaped the operator's perspective he later brought to venture investing.
In 2010–2011 he became one of the co-founders of Alaya Capital, joining software entrepreneurs Omar Vega and Mario Barra (owners of the firm Vates), ex-Motorola executive and academic Carlos Baradello, and investor Luis Bermejo. Alaya was conceived as a fund to back digital entrepreneurs across Latin America and has since grown into one of the region's recognized early-stage firms, managing successive funds and a portfolio of 30+ active companies. Today Guardianelli is associated with the firm's advisory board, contributing operating and industry experience alongside the active managing partners (Luis Bermejo, Lorena Suarez, and others) who run day-to-day investing.
Investment Thesis & Focus
- Invests through Alaya Capital in early-stage (seed / Series A) technology startups across Latin America, typically writing checks of roughly US$500K–US$1M.
- Backs digital, knowledge-based entrepreneurs capable of regional scaling and creating high-impact, "new global economy" businesses.
- Broad sector appetite: fintech, insurtech, agritech, edtech, healthtech, proptech, enterprise software, logistics, marketplaces, cleantech, and social-impact tech.
- Looks for companies with strong founding teams and the ability to expand beyond a single national market into the wider LatAm region — Alaya positions itself as an investor *and* a business-acceleration partner.
- As an operator-founder (20+ years at Arcor, then four of his own companies), he brings an industrial/operational lens rather than a purely financial one.
