Owen Davis

Owen Davis is a Managing Partner at Martis Capital, a private equity firm dedicated exclusively to the healthcare industry, which he joined in 2016. Martis invests in buyout and growth-equity opportunities in middle-market healthcare companies across the services & outsourcing, IT, and consumer/wellness subsectors. Since 2011 the firm has raised more than $2.1 billion, and in 2023 closed its oversubscribed fourth fund, Martis Partners IV, at $779 million — its largest to date. Martis operates out of San Francisco, Washington, DC, and Miami.

Davis began his private-equity career in 2006. Before Martis, he was at Francisco Partners, where he focused on middle-market buyout and growth-equity investments, and earlier served as an investment manager at Archer Capital. He started his career at McKinsey & Company and Macquarie Bank. Across his career he has lived in nine cities, reflecting a path that began in Australia and moved to the United States.

He was educated at the University of Sydney, where he earned a Bachelor of Commerce and a Bachelor of Laws (First Class Honours), and later received an MBA from Harvard Business School.

As a deal partner, Davis takes active board roles at Martis portfolio companies. He currently or recently has served as a director of WellHaven PetHealth, DCN Dx (DCN Diagnostics), Amivie, Community Based Care, and Orthopedic Health, and previously sat on the boards of Care Hospice, HealthcareSource, and Crossmatch (Cross Match Technologies).

• Targets buyout and growth-equity deals — control and growth capital in established, scalable businesses, rather than seed/venture bets.
• Concentrates on three subsectors: healthcare services & outsourcing, healthcare IT, and consumer/wellness (including veterinary and specialty-care platforms).
• Pursues a buy-and-build / platform strategy: e.g., WellHaven PetHealth was built by Martis from 2017 into a 40+ hospital multi-regional veterinary platform, and Care Hospice was expanded to more than 13 states during Martis's ownership.
• Martis positions itself as founder-friendly, having been named to Inc.'s Founder-Friendly Investors list for multiple consecutive years — signaling a preference for partnering with management teams to scale.
