Background
Pablo Szefner is a Barcelona-based internet entrepreneur and angel investor with more than 20 years in travel and fashion e-commerce. Born in Argentina, raised in Paris and of Polish descent, he trained in hospitality management at Institut Vatel in Paris and earned an MBA in tourism finance from ESSEC Business School. He speaks five languages fluently (Spanish, Catalan, English, French and Italian). Early in his career he held management roles at large companies including the Golden Tulip hotel group and Expedia.
He then moved into founding and scaling companies. He founded the metasearch site Easyviajar.com (which he describes as growing into one of Spain's largest travel metasearch engines within roughly ten months) and ran Weekendesk as managing director, taking revenue from about €3M to €40M. In 2011 he co-founded and served as CEO of The Fab Shoes, a leading online footwear subscription club in Southern Europe that raised around €2M and reached roughly 600,000 members in its first year.
The Fab Shoes was acquired by JustFab in June 2013, and Szefner stayed on as Director General of JustFab Europe (part of what became TechStyle Fashion Group). In that role he led the group's European fashion-subscription business, launched Fabletics in France and Spain, and piloted Rihanna's Savage X Fenty in Europe. He left the group around 2020, about seven years after the acquisition.
Today he is Co-Founder and CEO of Moonoa, a Barcelona digital-health startup that offers a cognitive-behavioral-therapy program and sleep coaching for people with insomnia. Alongside his operating work he is an active angel investor and mentor across the Spanish and international startup ecosystem, including as a SeedRocket mentor.
Investment Thesis & Focus
- Invests at seed stage as an individual angel and through committees (SeedRocket 4Founders Capital; Montserrate Ventures, a Colombian seed-stage angel fund).
- Backs consumer, e-commerce/D2C, marketplaces, fashion, travel, mobile, food, fintech and AI companies — sectors mirroring his own operating experience.
- Describes himself as an "international profile, having worked on 3 continents and speaking 5 languages fluently," with a track record of building and leading a $100M+ business.
- Has invested in 10+ startups across multiple countries, and often stays involved as a hands-on mentor and board member rather than a passive check.
- Comfortable co-investing alongside established Spanish and international funds (e.g., Cabiedes & Partners, Partech, Techstars London, Yago Arbeloa).
