Background

Patricia Lacoste is a graduate of the École Nationale de la Statistique et de l'Administration Économique (ENSAE, class of 1985) and holds a DEA (Master's) in econometrics and mathematical economics. She began her career in 1985 as a statistical research engineer at the consultancy COREF, building forecasting models. In 1992 she joined SNCF, where she spent roughly two decades in senior operational and commercial roles — including project manager on the "Socrate"/TGV reservation-system overhaul, HR responsibilities for managers and executives, the renovation of the Gare de l'Est, Director of the Paris-Est Region (preparing and launching the TGV Est Européen), and finally Director of TGV customer relations. She also served as a director of Réseau Ferré de France (RFF).

Prévoir is her family's business: the group was founded by her great-grandfather in 1910 and remains one of the last independent, family-owned insurers in France. While still at SNCF she was involved in Prévoir's governance, and on 2 May 2012 she joined full-time as Vice-President of the holding company and Vice-President & CEO of the insurance subsidiaries. In June 2013 (announced September 2013) she was appointed Chair and Chief Executive Officer (PDG) of Société Centrale Prévoir and its two insurers, Prévoir-Vie and Prévoir-Risques Divers, succeeding the previous leadership after Sylvie Duffaud was moved out of the group's general management.

Since 1 January 2025, following a governance reorganization, she is Chair and CEO of the holding Société Centrale Prévoir and Chair of Prévoir-Vie. In September 2025, Nicolas Eyt was named Délégué Général (Delegated General Director) of the holding, working alongside her to drive the next phase of development. Beyond Prévoir, Lacoste has been an independent director of SCOR SE since June 2021, sitting on its Strategic, Risk, Nomination & Compensation, and Sustainability/HR committees.

Investment Thesis & Focus

  • Buy to keep, not to flip. Her stated philosophy on acquisitions: *"Si j'achète, c'est pour garder !"* ("If I buy, it's to keep it") — and she has publicly insisted *"AssurOne n'est pas à vendre. Prévoir non plus !"* ("AssurOne is not for sale. Neither is Prévoir!"). This is long-horizon, permanent-capital strategic investing, not venture exits.
  • Distribution diversification. From 2019 onward she steered Prévoir to invest beyond its traditional door-to-door/tied-agent model into brokerage and digital distribution, combining "Prévoir's stability and solidity as an insurer with the hyper-agility of an insurtech."
  • Sector discipline: insurance, insurtech, and insurance distribution/brokerage — adjacencies to the core life and protection business.
  • Target profile: established, revenue-generating French insurance-distribution and insurtech companies where Prévoir can take a controlling or significant stake and integrate them for the long term.
  • Client philosophy: a repeated theme is serving a *"clientèle modeste/populaire"* (modest-income customers) with simple, accessible protection products — a lens that also informs where the group deploys capital.

Notable Investments

  • AssurOne Group — digital insurance broker (auto/home); Prévoir acquired 100% in January 2019 from AnaCap Financial Partners, its flagship insurtech/distribution move.
  • Utwin — wholesale broker / MGA in personal protection and borrower insurance; part of Prévoir's 2019 brokerage diversification.
  • Réassurez-moi (Réassurez-moi / Reassurez-moi) — French online insurance comparison and brokerage platform; Prévoir invested as part of its digital-distribution build-out.
  • Stello — Prévoir took an equity stake as part of continued distribution diversification.
