Background

Patrick Rieter was born in Zurich in 1957 and is a trained business economist. He began his investment career in 1984 at the Vontobel Group, where he spent roughly 13 years and rose to head of portfolio management. In 1997 he moved to the private bank Darier Hentsch & Cie in Zurich, where he led the institutional business. He subsequently served as institutional portfolio manager at InCentive Asset Management (approximately August 2001 to December 2004).

In October 2004 he co-founded Rieter Fischer Partners AG together with Erich Fischer, building an independent, owner-operated asset-management boutique focused on active management of Swiss and European equities. The firm obtained its FINMA license (as a manager of collective investment schemes) in 2007 and is audited by PricewaterhouseCoopers. Rieter has long acted as lead portfolio manager for the firm's Swiss equity strategies, defining his investment universe primarily by market capitalization and applying an EPS-growth-oriented style.

In September 2023, Rieter and co-founder Erich Fischer stepped back from day-to-day executive leadership: Elmar Meyer (a board member since 2014 and former founder of Lexpert Partners AG, with a background at Julius Bär and law firms) was appointed CEO to drive the firm's growth strategy. Rieter remains active in the firm as a Founding Partner and Chairman of the Board, continuing to contribute to portfolio management. He was quoted at the transition welcoming "an accomplished industry expert as CEO who will advance our growth strategy."

Investment Thesis & Focus

  • Asset class: Actively managed portfolios of listed Swiss and European equities — institutional mandates, pension-fund mandates, private wealth mandates, and the firm's own funds. (This is public-market investing, not venture/angel/seed.)
  • Style: Capitalization-defined universe with an EPS-growth investment style; bottom-up fundamental analysis and portfolio construction.
  • Signature strength: Swiss small- and mid-cap equities — the RFP Small & Mid Caps Switzerland fund has been recognized as a consistent top-tier performer over 1- and 3-year horizons.
  • Firm funds/strategies: RFP Small & Mid Caps Switzerland; RFP Swiss Equity Equal-Weighted; RFP Special Europe; Arnica European Opportunity Fund; plus discretionary wealth-management mandates and a multi-manager strategy.
  • What makes them "say yes" (in the public-markets sense): Fundamentally strong, growing companies (earnings-growth quality) within Swiss/European listed markets, sized within the strategy's cap band.

Notable Investments

  • RFP Small & Mid Caps Switzerland — flagship actively managed Swiss small/mid-cap equity fund; repeatedly cited as a top performer over 1- and 3-year periods.
  • RFP Swiss Equity Equal-Weighted — equal-weighted Swiss equity strategy.
  • RFP Special Europe — European equity strategy.
  • Arnica European Opportunity Fund — European equity opportunity fund associated with the firm.
