Background
Paul J. Krump spent his entire executive career — more than 40 years — in the property & casualty insurance industry. He joined The Chubb Corporation's predecessor in 1982 as a commercial underwriting trainee in Minneapolis and rose through a series of headquarters and field roles across the United States and Europe. Over time he led major operating units, serving as President of Personal Lines and Claims and President of Commercial and Specialty Lines, and ultimately became Chief Operating Officer of The Chubb Corporation, where he oversaw Commercial, Specialty, Personal and Accident & Health lines, Claims, Global Field Operations, IT, Human Resources, Communications, and External Affairs.
After ACE Limited acquired The Chubb Corporation in January 2016 to form the combined Chubb Limited — then the world's largest publicly traded P&C insurer — Krump became Executive Vice President of Chubb Group and President, North America Commercial and Personal Insurance (2016–2020). In August 2020 he was named Vice Chairman, Global Underwriting and Claims, leading underwriting and claims policy and execution across Chubb's global P&C product lines, a role he held until retiring on January 1, 2023.
In June 2023, Brown & Brown, Inc. (NYSE: BRO), one of the largest U.S. insurance brokerages, appointed Krump — alongside former Hiscox CEO Bronislaw E. "Bronek" Masojada — to its board of directors as an independent director. He chairs the board's Acquisition Committee and serves on the Audit Committee. Krump was roughly 65 at the time of his appointment.
Krump holds a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration from Saint John's University (Collegeville, Minnesota) and has completed executive programs at IMD in Lausanne, Switzerland; the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University; and a joint U.S. Army War College / Columbia Business School program. He has also served on the executive committee of The Council of Insurance Company Executives and the Board of Trustees of The Institutes.
Investment Thesis & Focus
- No publicly stated angel or venture investment thesis could be found. Krump's professional profile is that of a career insurance operating executive and public-company board director, not an active early-stage investor.
- His domain expertise is concentrated in property & casualty insurance — commercial, specialty, and high-net-worth personal lines — plus underwriting, claims, and risk engineering. Any advisory or capital involvement would most plausibly sit in insurance / insurtech, though this is inference, not a verified stance.
- The "Seed Round" / "Angel Investors" labeling in the source stub appears to originate from an investor-database classification and is not corroborated by any primary source.
Notable Investments
- No verifiable startup or angel investments were found. Krump's identifiable financial/board affiliation is his directorship at Brown & Brown, Inc. (public insurance brokerage, board seat since June 2023) — a governance role, not a venture investment. This section is left factual rather than populated with unverified deals.
