Background
Paul Norton is a Zurich-based finance executive, angel investor, and start-up mentor. NewRe states that he was appointed to its Board of Directors in April 2023. His professional background spans more than three decades in insurance in Switzerland and the UK, beginning at Price Waterhouse, now PwC.
Before joining Helvetia, Norton spent nearly six years at Zurich Financial Services, where his final role was Group Head of External Reporting. He then served as Head of Corporate Development and Capital Management at Winterthur Group. In 2007, he joined Helvetia Insurance as Group CFO.
At Helvetia, Norton was Chief Financial Officer and a member of the Group Executive Board from 2007 to 2020. Helvetia said he stepped down as CFO on September 30, 2020, stayed on for special tasks and handover through August 2021, and retired thereafter. Helvetia credited him with steering the balance sheet through the financial crisis, supporting acquisitions, and modernising risk management, capital management, and investor relations.
Norton holds a degree in History from the University of Reading and is a Chartered Accountant and member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales. His C Talks mentor profile lists his advisory expertise as financial management and reporting, investor relations, capital management and financial risk management, M&A, and post-merger integration.
