Background
Pawel Chudzinski is a Partner at Point Nine, a Berlin-based early-stage venture capital firm. Point Nine describes itself as a thesis-driven early-stage VC investing globally in AI for the digital, physical and biological world, with a concentrated partnership model in which each partner works closely with 6–8 companies.
Before co-founding Point Nine in 2011, Chudzinski was a co-founder and partner at Team Europe, where he led investment activities. Earlier, he worked in investment banking at Greenhill & Co. in Frankfurt and London, focused on M&A and corporate finance.
Chudzinski graduated from HHL Leipzig Graduate School of Management. His own biography says he was born and raised in Poland, lives in Berlin, and is fluent in English, German and Polish, with basic Russian. LinkedIn also lists International Space University coursework in 2024.
Forbes describes him as a Berlin-based investor known for early bets on European startups, and says he co-founded Point Nine with Christoph Janz. Forbes also identifies him as the lead partner for many of Point Nine’s crypto, financial services and marketplace investments, including Delivery Hero, Revolut, Mambu and Chainalysis.
Investment Thesis & Focus
- Point Nine’s current public positioning is early-stage, thesis-driven investing with $1–10 million per company and hands-on support for founders.
- Chudzinski wrote that “a big part of our investment thesis at Point Nine is to invest in SaaS and marketplaces startups,” and historically described Point Nine as business-model-focused rather than industry-specific.
- In the same post, he said Point Nine systematically focused on SaaS and marketplaces while treating adtech, e-commerce and mobile consumer more opportunistically.
- Current Point Nine positioning has broadened toward AI while retaining B2B software strength; its public site highlights AI, SaaS, B2B software, marketplaces, vertical software, climate and energy, fintech, crypto and developer infrastructure.
- Point Nine has historically preferred early seed exposure: the portfolio page says the firm has invested in 10–12 early-stage startups per year since 2008.
- For marketplaces, Chudzinski has written about the distinction between global SaaS-like businesses and multi-local marketplaces, where country-by-country execution and local liquidity matter.
