Pedro Mont

Pedro Mont Wong is a Peruvian retail executive who leads Platanitos, one of Peru's largest homegrown footwear and fashion chains. The business traces to his Chinese-Peruvian family: his grandfather Manuel Wong emigrated from China in 1949 and ran the Activa shoe factory (Boby school-shoe brand), and his mother, Lourdes Wong, opened "Banana Boutique" in Miraflores in 1991, which was "Peruvianized" and renamed Platanitos in 1998. Pedro inherited the entrepreneurial vision and today directs the company, which operates roughly 95–100 stores in Peru plus a growing footprint in Chile, alongside the Kayser undergarment brand and a large multi-brand e-commerce marketplace at platanitos.com.

He is a graduate of the University of Lima (Administration) and earned his MBA from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania (Wharton Graduate, WG'07). His earlier career included roles at Procter & Gamble and the strategy consultancy Booz & Company (Booz Allen Hamilton), giving him a marketing- and strategy-heavy foundation before he took the helm of the family retail group.

Beyond retail, Mont is active as a startup investor and mentor. He is associated with Chinaccelerator (the China-focused accelerator, part of the SOSV network) and the Qian Zhen Memorial Scholarship as a mentor, and he has ties to the Peruvian startup ecosystem — notably LEAP Game Studios, the Lima-based indie game studio, which he has publicly championed. Now based in New York, he also mentors female STEM students in China and has volunteered as a firefighter.

At Platanitos he is known as an aggressive operator on assortment breadth (600+ shoe models vs. competitors' 100–200), technology, and logistics, positioning the company around the mission to "democratize fashion." Recent initiatives include AI-powered product descriptions and conversational search, "Holobox" 3D virtual fitting rooms, a "Resikla" resale-for-credit program, and store-as-distribution-center inventory software the company says it wants to offer other retailers.
