Background
Pertti Korhonen (born 2 October 1961 in Tampere) is a veteran Finnish technology executive, board professional, and investor. He earned a diploma/M.Sc. in electrical engineering from the University of Oulu in 1987 and spent the first 20 years of his career at Nokia (1986–2006). At Nokia he rose through product development and operations roles — including introducing Toyota-style just-in-time production and building Nokia Mobile Phones' world-leading global operations, logistics and sourcing function — before serving as Chief Technology Officer and Executive Vice President of Nokia Technology Platforms (2004–2006) and a member of the Nokia Group Executive Board (2002–2006).
After Nokia, Korhonen became CEO of two listed Finnish technology companies. He led Elektrobit (later Bittium) as CEO from 2006 to 2009, restructuring its business model, offering, and organization, and then joined Outotec in September 2009, becoming President & CEO from January 2010 through 2016. At Outotec — a global minerals- and metals-processing technology company — he championed a "shared value" philosophy of balancing shareholder returns with societal and environmental benefit. From 2020 to 2023 he served as CEO of Fintraffic (Traffic Management Finland).
Across four decades his work has spanned telecommunications, microelectronics, automation and robotics, automotive and system-critical software, minerals and metals, biomaterials, and circular-economy solutions. He has held numerous chairmanships and board seats, including Chairman of Ahlstrom (2013–2014, vice-chair from 2011), Chairman of DNA plc (2016–2019), and Chairman of the Board of Business Finland (2018–2019 term). More recently he has served as Chairman of Remeo Group and Enerim, an executive advisor to Hartwall Capital and o9 Solutions, and a board member at the University of Oulu, Namier Capital Partners, and Juuri Partners. He is married to Hille Korhonen, herself a former CEO (Nokian Tyres, Alko).
Investment Thesis & Focus
- Invests as an individual angel and industrial advisor in start-up and listed companies across several industries, describing himself as a "Board Professional, industrial Advisor and Investor."
- Gravitates toward industrial and manufacturing technology where he can apply four decades of operating experience in supply chains, operations, and deep-tech — rather than consumer or purely digital plays.
- Backs companies solving structural, hard industrial problems. On investing in Jakamo he said: *"Jakamo solves a fundamental problem that me and my team members have been struggling with over 20 years in different organisations. The chronic problem of ineffective information sharing between customers and suppliers has finally been solved."*
- Motivated by building "a more efficient and sustainable manufacturing ecosystem," consistent with the "shared value" and circular-economy themes he has emphasized throughout his executive career.
- Typically pairs capital with hands-on advisory/board engagement, leveraging his operating network across Nordic industrial companies.
Notable Investments
- Jakamo — Advisor and investor in the Finnish B2B collaboration/supply-chain platform for manufacturing companies (1,500+ customer companies across 40+ countries). His most clearly documented angel/advisor stake.
