Background
Peter Bishop is the founder and Managing Director of Chessboard (previously HLB Chessboard), a Brisbane-based corporate advisory firm established in 2013. A Chartered Accountant, Peter has roughly two decades of experience in accounting and finance. Earlier in his career he worked at Deloitte and then served as Principal in charge of Corporate Finance in Queensland at Crowe Horwath, and spent several years in investment banking across Sydney and Brisbane.
Over his career he has completed transactions valued up to approximately A$135 million, spanning dual-track exits, mergers and acquisitions, takeover defences, capital raisings and proposed IPOs. He regularly acts as lead adviser to boards on M&A transactions and provides strategic advice aimed at maximising shareholder value, with particular depth in private equity, agribusiness, health and services sectors. His client base spans large private enterprises, ASX-listed companies and emerging businesses.
Peter holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Queensland. He is a Fellow of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (holding a Certificate of Public Practice), a Member of the Financial Services Institute of Australasia (FINSIA), and a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
Beyond his advisory work, Peter is active in community and institutional roles: he is an adjunct fellow / Chairman of the Development Board at the University of Queensland Diamantina Institute, and serves on the board of trustees for the Clem Jones Centre.
