Background

Peter Hiscocks is a Cambridge-based entrepreneur, educator, and angel investor. Cambridge Judge Business School lists him as a Fellow in Management Practice with an MBA from Imperial College London and DIC. He spent years in the private sector in product development before founding multiple businesses.

His operating record includes Integral Inc, described by Cambridge Judge as a $50 million consulting company; Ecurie25, a supercar club; and Pod Point, an EV charging business. Cambridge Judge says he was Chairman of a £20 million seed fund supporting start-ups and is an active business angel. A 2025 Gunmakers Trust biography says he has founded or co-founded 14 businesses, ten of which have been sold.

At the University of Cambridge, Hiscocks taught innovation management from 1993 and became the first Director of the Cambridge Entrepreneurship Centre, established in 2000. In 2003 he founded Cambridge Enterprise, the University’s commercialization arm, then returned to Cambridge Judge in 2010 to teach entrepreneurship and innovation on MBA and EMBA programmes. He ran Cambridge Judge Business School Executive Education from 2013 for four years and retired from the University in 2017 or 2018, while continuing adjunct teaching.

Companies House records show he is an active director of Cyclops Marine Ltd, appointed 4 March 2019, with occupation listed as Chairman. TSM Systems Ltd filings show he was appointed a director on 8 February 2021.

Investment Thesis & Focus

  • Invests at seed and early stages, with public sources describing him as chairman of a £20 million seed fund that helped fund new business start-ups and as an active business angel.
  • Practical founder-operator orientation: Cambridge Judge highlights his long career founding and chairing companies, not only investing passively.
  • Values prototyping and customer feedback. In the Pod Point story he said entrepreneurs need prototypes because “You never get it right the first time,” and customers need something concrete to criticize and improve.
  • Focuses on ventures that can build real products, teams, and commercial relationships. Pod Point’s progress is described through early prototypes, OEM relationships, crowdfunding, VC rounds, EDF acquisition, and IPO.
  • Looks for sufficient capitalization. In a Cambridge Judge podcast summary, he warned that a start-up’s “sin” is being under-capitalised and discussed the gap between seed funding and larger VC investment.
  • Cambridge ecosystem bias: in a 2022 Cambridge Judge article he emphasized Cambridge’s incubators, accelerators, VC firms, and angel networks as part of the support system founders should use.
