Background

Philip Vannieuwenhuyze is a Partner at Vendis Capital, an independent private equity firm founded in 2009 that specializes in building branded consumer companies across Europe. He joined Vendis in April 2018 and is based in Brussels. Over his tenure he has advanced through the firm, starting as an Associate, then Investment Manager and Investment Director, before being promoted to Partner on 28 March 2025. In his Partner role he focuses on the Dutch market, working alongside Vincent Braams and Arjan Elderhorst.

Before Vendis, Philip was a Principal at Stamford Partners, a London-based independent financial advisory firm focused on the European consumer sector, where he advised on consumer-goods M&A. Prior to that he spent roughly four years in the investment banking division of Nomura in London.

Academically, Philip holds a Master's degree in Commercial Engineering from the University of Leuven (KU Leuven) and an MSc in Finance from HEC Paris, giving him a combined engineering-and-finance background well suited to consumer-brand investing.

At Vendis, he operates within a firm that has raised more than €1.1 billion, made 50+ investments over 25+ years of collective brand-building experience, and applies a proprietary "5Cs" growth framework to scale portfolio companies into category-leading brands. Vendis is also a Certified B Corporation.

Investment Thesis & Focus

  • Invests in branded consumer scale-ups — companies with an established product and market presence, not early-stage startups; typical targets generate up to ~€120M revenue.
  • Equity checks of roughly €5–25 million, deployed flexibly as either development (growth) capital or buyout capital.
  • Sector focus on consumer categories: beauty & personal care, wellness/health, food & beverage, home & garden, sports & leisure, jewelry, and consumer healthcare services.
  • Value-creation approach: Vendis positions itself as a hands-on operator that "partners with bold teams and helps them turn companies into iconic brands," driving growth through internationalization, digitalization and expansion of sales channels via its "5Cs growth framework."
  • Geography: Western and Northern Europe (Belgium, Netherlands, France, Germany, Nordics); Philip specifically leads Dutch-market activity.
