Background
Pierre-Yves Poirier is one of the founding partners of Andera Partners and a Partner in the firm's Andera MidCap (growth-capital) team. He brings nearly 25 years of private equity experience. After an initial role at Société Générale, he joined the private equity fund La Financière de Brienne in 1994, where he worked until 1998.
In 1999 he moved to the Development Capital teams of the Edmond de Rothschild Group, and he took part in the 2002 spin-off that ultimately became Andera Partners (formerly Edmond de Rothschild Investment Partners / EdRIP). Since its creation, the Andera MidCap platform has deployed more than €1 billion across successive Winch Capital funds (Winch Capital 1 – €166m; Winch Capital 2 – €250m; Winch Capital 3 – €300m; Winch Capital 4 – €445m), with a fifth fund, Andera MidCap 5, reaching an intermediate close at €450m.
Poirier is a graduate of the École Centrale de Lille and holds a post-graduate degree in finance from the University of Lille II–EDHEC. He works in English and French, and his firm bio playfully describes him as a "snow-addict" who "breathes well only above 4,000 meters."
Investment Thesis & Focus
- Backs established French and European mid-market companies — often niche industrial and manufacturing "champions" — and helps them scale and internationalize, typically through the Winch Capital / Andera MidCap growth-capital funds.
- Comfortable with both majority and minority positions in growth and buyout situations; his fund invests via vehicles sized €300m–€450m, well above typical angel/seed tickets.
- Sector interests concentrated in niche manufacturing, material science, aerospace & defense test systems, and premium/luxury supply chains, alongside consumer and services.
- On the Spherea/Averna combination he framed the rationale as "a decisive step in Spherea's long-term growth trajectory," reflecting a buy-and-build, international-expansion approach to mission-critical industrial assets.
- Frequently co-invests with fellow Andera partners (aggregators note collaboration with colleagues such as Sylvain Charignon).
Notable Investments
- Pusterla 1880 — European leader in premium secondary packaging for luxury goods; Andera MidCap invested via Winch Capital 4 (announced Jan 12, 2021), the fund's 10th deal, to accelerate European growth; company later issued sustainability-linked bonds.
- Spherea — Provider of mission-critical test systems for aerospace & defense; Andera (via Winch Capital 4) with Omnes took a majority stake, later combining Spherea with Averna to build a global test & quality-engineering champion.
- Senstronic — Industrial sensor / Industry-4.0 company (listed in aggregator profiles, ~2022).
- Platinium Group — Portfolio holding cited on his firm bio.
- Potel & Chabot — Premium French catering group (prior investment / exit).
- Groupe Globe — Prior investment / exit.
