Background
Praveen Kumar is best known as the founder and CEO of TripHobo, originally JoGuru, a Pune-founded travel technology platform for creating, optimizing, and booking personalized travel itineraries. TripHobo’s own site identifies him as Founder and CEO and says he brought seven years of experience setting up ecommerce portals before starting the company.
He studied at the Indian Institute of Management Lucknow from 2008 to 2010 and holds a B.Tech in Electronics and Communications from Kakatiya Institute of Technology & Science. Public profiles also list earlier roles as GSM Engineer at Nokia, Technical Associate at Tech Mahindra, Key Accounts Manager at HCL Infosystems, and Product Manager at Samsung.
In 2012, Kumar co-founded TripHobo with Saket Newaskar and Karthik Ramachandra. The company was built around visual, algorithmic itinerary planning and raised institutional capital from Kalaari Capital and Mayfield. In 2015, Kumar said the team had set out to “create a global product out of India” and saw “a massive space for innovation in customization of travel.”
More recent public profiles list Kumar as a Senior PM Manager at Microsoft, with prior product leadership roles at Lenskart.com and Ola Electric. As an angel investor, public investor databases show one disclosed investment: ReadyAssist, a Bengaluru-based vehicle repair and roadside-assistance startup.
Investment Thesis & Focus
- Invests at seed stage as an individual angel, based on public investor profiles and the ReadyAssist seed round.
- Publicly disclosed investment interests cluster around consumer services and transportation/logistics, with specific exposure to automobiles, car and bike support services, and roadside assistance.
- His operating background suggests a bias toward technology-enabled platforms that solve fragmented consumer workflows: TripHobo focused on turning travel planning from a long research process into a structured itinerary and booking flow.
- Kumar has publicly emphasized customization and technology as important trends. In TripHobo’s Series B announcement, he said he believed there was “a massive space for innovation in customization of travel.”
- Likely fit: founders building practical, scalable consumer-service infrastructure in India, especially where product, operations, and user experience have to work together. This is an inference from his TripHobo, Lenskart/Ola/Microsoft product background and ReadyAssist investment history.
Notable Investments
- ReadyAssist — Bengaluru-based 24/7 roadside assistance and vehicle repair startup. ReadyAssist raised a $1 million seed round in January 2021 from angel investors including Praveen Kumar, Satish Grampurohit, Visweswara Gupta Kothamachu, Nagaraj Srinivasa, Siddramesh Nara, Harish Srinivas Gudi, and Vijay Sambamurthi.
