Background

Preston Brice is a healthcare-focused private equity investor with nearly two decades of experience in the sector. He began his career in healthcare investment banking at CIT Group before moving to Apple Tree Partners, a growth-oriented, roughly $1.5B healthcare-focused venture/growth-equity fund. He earned a B.S. in Business Administration from Boston University's School of Management (magna cum laude) and an M.B.A. from Columbia Business School, where he graduated with Dean's Honors and Distinction.

In 2016 Brice joined MBF Healthcare Partners — the Miami-based middle-market healthcare private equity firm founded by Mike Fernandez — as a Managing Director. There he specialized in strategic growth-equity investments and majority recapitalizations of middle-market companies, describing himself as a "thesis-driven" investor who devotes significant resources to identifying the right management teams to back and then leverages the firm's operating experience and domain relationships to accelerate value creation.

In June 2020 he joined Grant Avenue Capital, LLC as a Partner, responsible for sourcing, evaluating, and executing middle-market investments, monitoring portfolio companies, and helping shape the firm's long-term strategy. He subsequently founded his own firm, Barclay Hill Partners, a New York-based healthcare private equity investor that partners with management teams by providing sector expertise and flexible capital. Its tagline is "Elevating Healthcare, Driving Growth."

Brice has been an active board member across the healthcare companies he has backed. He has served on the boards of Carisk (behavioral health / catastrophic-care management), Acorn Health (autism/ABA services), Strive Dental Management (a DSO), and Affinity Hospice, among others, and has been involved with Helios Clinical Research, Ovation Healthcare, Valeo Home Health & Hospice, H2 Health, and Concordia Behavioral Health. He also serves as a board member of the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (PanCAN).

Investment Thesis & Focus

  • Invests exclusively in healthcare businesses, targeting companies with roughly $2M–$15M of EBITDA — i.e., established, revenue-generating providers rather than early-stage startups.
  • Pursues growth equity, majority recapitalizations, and buyouts — providing founders both growth capital and liquidity.
  • Self-described "thesis-driven" investor: "devoted significant resources to identifying the right groups and leadership to partner with," aiming to "partner with exceptional management teams while leveraging … operating experience, domain segment knowledge, and tenured relationships to rapidly accelerate value creation."
  • At Barclay Hill Partners, the stated approach is to "empower healthcare businesses to scale rapidly and achieve lasting success through a collaborative partnership," providing "differentiated sector expertise and flexible capital solutions."
  • Consistent sub-sector interest in behavioral health / autism (ABA) services, dental service organizations, home health & hospice, and clinical research — the verticals where he has repeatedly built or sat on boards.
