Qiang Xu

Dr. Qiang Xu is a Partner at Decheng Capital and has been with the firm since its inception. Decheng’s own profile says he serves on the boards of BCFoods, GYT HealthCare Services, IMPACT Therapeutics, Islex Therapeutics, and KeChow Pharma. Kind Pharmaceutical’s board page adds that he joined Decheng in 2011 and leads investment activities across biopharmaceuticals, molecular diagnostics, medical devices, healthcare services, and agritech.

Before moving into venture capital, Xu worked across biotechnology startups and pharmaceutical companies. Decheng says he began as a scientist at Bayer, then joined Scios as part of its Alzheimer’s Disease Discovery Program, worked at Pan Pacific Pharmaceuticals as a director, and later joined Osel as Vice President of Research. Kind Pharmaceutical describes his later role as Vice President of R&D at Aos Biopharma/Osel in the United States and notes that he was principal investigator on multiple NIH- and foundation-funded research projects.

Xu has a technical and scientific background rather than a finance-only profile. Decheng reports that he has published more than 30 peer-reviewed papers, given more than 50 conference presentations, and is co-inventor on 10 patents or patent applications. He received a B.S. in agronomy and an M.S. in crop sciences, earned a Ph.D. in plant physiology from Kansas State University, and completed postdoctoral training at the University of California, Berkeley.
