Background

W. Radford ("Rad") Lovett II co-founded Lovett Miller & Co. in 1997 with W. Scott Miller, building it into one of the Southeast's established venture capital and private equity firms. He holds an A.B. degree from Harvard College. Before Lovett Miller, he served as President of Southcoast Capital Corporation, a family holding company investing in private equities, public equities, and real estate, and earlier worked at Lincoln Property Company and in the Corporate Finance Department of Merrill Lynch in New York City.

Lovett is also a proven operator, not solely a financier. He served as founder, Chairman, and CEO of two successful wireless-infrastructure growth companies: TowerCom Development, LP (a developer of wireless communications infrastructure) and TowerCom, Limited (an owner and developer of broadcast communication towers) — ventures the firm cites as generating exceptionally high compounded annual returns for their investors.

From the Jacksonville office, Lovett has been a long-serving director of EverBank (a Lovett Miller portfolio company that went public in 2012), on whose board he has sat since roughly 2004. His other board seats have included Healthcare Solutions, Inc., RxStrategies, Inc., CareAnyware, Inc., DocuFree Corporation, and TowerCom V, LLC. He carries the name of his late relative Radford Dow Lovett (1933–2010), a prominent Jacksonville investor and former Merrill Lynch managing director and Piggly Wiggly executive — the two are frequently conflated but are distinct people.

Beyond investing, Lovett has been active in the Jacksonville civic community, serving on the University of North Florida Board of Trustees and as Co-Chairman of its capital campaign, and as a former Chairman of the Youth Crisis Center and the Jacksonville Jaguars Honor Rows Program.

Investment Thesis & Focus

  • Provides expansion/growth capital to rapidly growing, privately held companies in the Southeast — this is growth-stage equity, not seed-stage angel money.
  • Writes equity checks of roughly $3–10 million, willing to flex smaller or larger.
  • Invests across a broad range of financing structures: (1) growth capital, (2) minority-shareholder liquidity transactions, and (3) growth buyouts.
  • Two-sector focus: healthcare (healthcare services, healthcare IT, medical devices) and technology-enhanced services (business services, SaaS, telecom, fintech).
  • Backs companies where the firm can add strategic guidance alongside capital, reflecting Lovett's own operating background as a founder/CEO.
  • Track record oriented toward realized exits via IPO and strategic sale rather than momentum bets.
