Radha Muthiah

Radha Muthiah is a nonprofit and cross-sector executive with more than 20 years of experience leading both start-up and established organizations in the United States and internationally. Since April 2018 she has served as President and CEO of the Capital Area Food Bank, the largest hunger-relief organization in the Washington, D.C. region, where she leads a team that distributes over 30 million meals annually — directly and through a network of 450+ community partners — to roughly half a million people. She is known for a "people-centered, data-informed" approach and has championed "food as medicine" and the connection between nutrition and health outcomes.

Before the food bank, Muthiah was CEO of the Global Alliance for Clean Cookstoves (later renamed the Clean Cooking Alliance), a public-private partnership hosted by the United Nations Foundation, a role she held from 2011 until early 2018. Under her leadership the Alliance pursued the goal of 100 million households adopting clean cooking solutions by 2020, and clean cooking was elevated onto the global development agenda — becoming part of multiple UN Sustainable Development Goals and dozens of national climate action plans. She stepped down in 2018 (succeeded by Dymphna van der Lans) and has continued as a member of the Alliance's Leadership Council.

Earlier in her career, Muthiah was Vice President for Strategic Partnerships and Alliances at CARE International, USA, and held roles at ICF International, the American Red Cross, Mercer Management Consulting, and the Council on Foreign Relations. She holds a BA and an MA in economics from Tufts University and an MBA from Stanford University.

Muthiah is active on numerous regional and national boards, including the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond (Baltimore Branch), Children's National Hospital, the Greater Washington Board of Trade, the Federal City Council, the Northern Virginia Chamber of Commerce, the Federation of Virginia Food Banks, and the advisory council of the Tufts Food Is Medicine Institute.
