Background
Reed Snyder is a Principal (also referred to as Investment Director) at Verdane, the specialist growth-equity firm that backs technology-enabled and sustainable companies across Northern Europe. He joined Verdane's Oslo team in August 2019 and focuses primarily on the firm's Energy- and Resource-Efficiency thesis, investing in high-growth companies across the energy transition and mobility segments. Much of his activity has run through Verdane's Idun impact funds — Verdane Idun I, one of Europe's largest growth impact funds, held its final close in December 2021.
Before Verdane, Reed built his career in New York City. Immediately prior he was a growth-equity investor at Activant Capital, where he focused on technology companies digitalizing legacy industries such as logistics, manufacturing, agriculture, and construction. He began his career as a private-equity investment analyst in the Private Equity group at Goldman Sachs, gaining experience across a range of sectors, geographies, and stages of the growth cycle.
Reed earned a Bachelor's degree in Neuroscience from Harvard University. Alongside his investing role, he serves as a board member at several Verdane portfolio companies, including EVA Global (EV-charging managed services), EasyPark (mobility/parking), and, previously, Cleanwatts (energy-management software). He has also spoken publicly on sustainable investing, including at the Nordic Cleantech Open and on the "Mariana Thinks Food" podcast.
Investment Thesis & Focus
- Invests in growth-stage companies driving the energy transition, e-mobility, and resource efficiency — the core of Verdane's Idun impact strategy.
- Looks for businesses that pair commercial growth and profitability with genuine sustainability/social impact, rather than treating impact and returns as a trade-off.
- Comfortable with both minority and control positions, typically writing sizable growth checks (deals he's led have been in the tens of millions of euros).
- Draws on a "digitalize legacy industries" lens carried over from Activant — backing software and tech-enabled services modernizing sectors like mobility, energy, logistics, and construction.
- His stated ethos, framed around EV infrastructure: "Let's move the solution ahead of the problem" — a bias toward proactively building enabling infrastructure before demand fully materializes.
Notable Investments
- EVA Global — Global provider of end-to-end managed services (live monitoring / uptime assurance) for EV-charging infrastructure. Verdane made a significant minority investment via Verdane Idun I, announced February 2022; Reed joined the board.
- Cleanwatts — Portuguese clean-tech / energy-management and energy-communities software company. Verdane (Idun) invested ~€25M, announced June 2022; Reed served on the board. Verdane realized/exited the investment in early 2026 (full ownership passing to a DWS-managed infrastructure fund).
- UrbanVolt — Irish Solar-as-a-Service provider; Verdane committed €26M in August 2023 to fund European expansion.
- EasyPark — European digital parking / mobility platform and earlier Verdane investment; Reed holds a board seat.
- Movimento — Mobility-space investment cited among Verdane's relevant prior software/mobility deals.
