Background
Reetika Grewal is an executive vice president at Wells Fargo, where she leads Wholesale Digital and Enterprise Innovation. Her current remit spans commercial, corporate, and investment banking digital offerings, plus enterprise innovation work with fintechs, venture capital partners, enterprise partners, and user-centered design teams.
Before joining Wells Fargo in 2021, Grewal was head of digital for the Commercial Bank at JPMorgan Chase from 2019 to 2021. Earlier, she spent 2012 to 2019 at Silicon Valley Bank as Global Head of Payments Strategy and Solutions, working with technology clients across their company lifecycles on embedded financial-services products and bank-infrastructure needs.
At SVB, she also led Commerce.Innovated., a startup accelerator initially run with Mastercard and later with First Data. The program focused on payments, commerce, and fintech startups and provided operational mentorship rather than published investment checks. Public sources describe Grewal’s work as sitting “side by side” with clients on payments issues including compliance, regulation, payment-network connections, transaction structure, and financing flows.
Grewal has also held payments and product roles at Wells Fargo, Pay By Touch, Monitise/Clairmail, JPMorgan Chase, and Sapient. She has a BA in French and International Relations from the University of Michigan and an MBA from Washington University in St. Louis. She serves on the boards of Fintech Sandbox and Women in FinTech, and previously served on the strategic advisory board of FTV Capital.
Investment Thesis & Focus
- Grewal does not appear to be a public, full-time angel investor with a disclosed personal portfolio or check size. The public record supports a startup-ecosystem role through SVB’s Commerce.Innovated accelerator, Fintech Sandbox, Women in FinTech, and a former FTV Capital strategic advisory board seat.
- Her clearest startup focus is fintech infrastructure: payments, commerce, embedded finance, APIs, compliance, fraud prevention, transaction flows, and data access.
- Commerce.Innovated looked for companies that had a working product, had secured or were raising seed or Series A funding, and were building solutions that made commerce easier, safer, or better for consumers or businesses.
- Her operating lens is practical and client-workflow driven. In Wells Fargo’s Treasury Takeaways podcast, she said commercial digital products need to “meet them where they’re at,” including by building APIs into clients’ existing ERP and treasury systems.
- Her stated fintech-collaboration view is that large financial institutions should work with fintechs to combine in-person and digital experiences into “seamless, integrated experiences across the product ecosystem.”
- What appears to make her engage is a company solving a concrete business problem in financial services, especially where a bank’s network, regulatory knowledge, data access, or payments infrastructure can help the company scale.
