Background
Rehber Lookman is a venture investor with more than two decades of blended experience across technology, operations, and venture capital in North American, European, and South Asian markets. He began his career on the technical side, spending over 10 years in the technology sector — largely as a Senior Member of the Technical Staff supporting new product development at Maxim Integrated Products. He holds a Bachelor of Applied Science in Biomedical and Electrical Engineering from the University of Toronto and an MBA from the Schulich School of Business at York University.
He transitioned into venture investing through Toronto-based Northwater Capital, where as an Investment Manager on its venture/IP fund he handled lead discovery, investment screening, underwriting, and portfolio management focused on early-stage disruptive technologies in the ICT, energy, and industrial sectors. He subsequently moved to London, working as an Investment Manager at Kreos Capital, a leading European venture-debt/growth-debt firm, and also spent time with 8Great Technologies and Impact Investment Partners.
In 2016 Rehber joined the London office of Nauta Capital — a pan-European VC (roughly €500M AUM, with teams in Barcelona, London, and Munich) that backs early-stage disruptive software companies. There he headed up early-stage technology investing across the firm's B2B enterprise, AI, and FinTech practices, focusing on deal flow, due diligence, and supporting UK-based portfolio companies.
He has since founded and serves as Managing Partner of 6SV Tech, leading investments and advisory for early-stage advanced-technology startups, and reports having managed $7B+ AUM across global funds and 25+ investments over his career. He also heads York University's High Performance AI Lab and mentors founders through ventureLAB, the University of Toronto, and York University; he sits on the advisory board of ventureLAB's HardTech Investor Network.
Investment Thesis & Focus
- Invests at the early stage — seed and Series A — in disruptive, technically defensible companies, consistent with Nauta's "single global thesis" for early-stage software.
- Sector emphasis on B2B enterprise SaaS, AI, and FinTech, plus a broader interest in deep-tech / "hardtech" and advanced technology through 6SV Tech and the HardTech Investor Network.
- Comes at deals with an engineer-operator's lens — a decade building products at Maxim Integrated plus underwriting/portfolio experience — so he weighs technical differentiation and product roadmap heavily, not just market narrative.
- Check sizes in his Nauta period ranged roughly $500K–$7.5M, with an entry sweet spot near $500K.
- Values hands-on portfolio support (deal flow, due diligence, board-level involvement) rather than passive capital, as reflected in his director/board work with portfolio companies.
Notable Investments
- MishiPay — London-based retail "scan, pay & go" mobile checkout technology; a Nauta Capital portfolio company (founders Mustafa Khanwala and Tanvi Bhardwaj), associated with a £3.5M Series A that Rehber highlighted.
- TRIYO — data workflow/productivity platform (financial-services workflow management), where Rehber serves as a Board Member.
- Broader Nauta Capital UK portfolio during his tenure included companies such as Brandwatch, CloudIQ, BeMyEye, and ChannelSight (firm-level deals from the office he worked in).
