Remy Durand

Remy Durand is a life-sciences investor and biotech operating executive. He earned a B.S.E. in Biomedical Engineering from Case Western Reserve University and a Ph.D. in Bioengineering from Stanford University, where he was a National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellow. His doctoral research used optogenetics to map neural circuits and to understand the physiologic basis of functional neural imaging, work that resulted in publications in *Nature* and *Nature Protocols*.

After academia, Durand built a career spanning consulting, corporate venture, and dedicated healthcare investing. He worked as a management consultant (life-sciences specialist) at L.E.K. Consulting, then as an investment professional at GE Ventures Healthcare, and subsequently as Vice President on the life-sciences investment team at Frazier Healthcare Partners (roughly 2015–2018), one of the longest-standing dedicated healthcare investment firms. In his Frazier role he served as a board observer or director on multiple portfolio companies, including Alpine Immune Sciences, Aptinyx, and Scout Bio (and is also associated with board-observer roles at Iterum Therapeutics and Zavante Therapeutics).

Durand is a Principal at Alpine BioVentures, a Seattle-based life-sciences venture firm that founds and seed-funds biotech companies — typically providing the first institutional capital and helping build the science and management team from the earliest stage. The firm founded and seed-funded Alpine Immune Sciences in 2015 to advance next-generation immunotherapies.

In parallel with his investing role, Durand served as Chief Business Officer (earlier, VP of Business Development) at Alpine Immune Sciences (NASDAQ: ALPN) from roughly 2021 to 2024, leading business development, investor relations, corporate strategy, capital formation, and commercial planning. He led business-development efforts through the company's acquisition by Vertex Pharmaceuticals (NASDAQ: VRTX) for approximately $4.9 billion in 2024. According to his LinkedIn, he has more recently taken a chief-executive role at an undisclosed ("StealthCo.") venture.
