Background

Richard Eddison spent much of his career in New York in institutional private equity and private credit. He joined GoldPoint Partners LLC (formerly New York Life Capital Partners, an affiliate of New York Life Investments) around 2015, rising through Associate and Senior Associate roles to Vice President. At GoldPoint he helped manage a diversified private equity portfolio comprising equity co-investments, mezzanine investments, and limited-partnership commitments to alternative-investment funds — capital managed on behalf of pension funds, financial institutions, high-net-worth investors, and New York Life Insurance Company. GoldPoint manages roughly $9 billion of private equity assets across its co-investment, mezzanine, and fund-advisory programs.

Before GoldPoint, Eddison worked in investment banking as an Associate at Houlihan Lokey, and earlier at the Denver-based boutique Green Manning & Bunch. He holds a BSBA in Finance from the University of Colorado at Boulder.

When New York Life combined GoldPoint Partners, PA Capital, and Madison Capital Funding into Apogem Capital in 2022, Eddison continued on the Apogem platform, where he was a Director focused on private credit/direct lending.

In October 2025, Eddison left Apogem to join hedge-fund firm Third Point LLC as a Managing Director in Private Credit, part of a three-person team (with Tim Day and Will Raul) recruited from Apogem to build out Third Point's direct-lending and origination capabilities. He reports to Sunil Mehta, Third Point's head of direct lending and originations.

Investment Thesis & Focus

  • Institutional private equity and private credit, not angel/venture investing — the "Angel / Seed" labels attached to his contact record in some databases do not match his actual mandate.
  • At GoldPoint, three core strategies: equity co-investments alongside private equity sponsors, mezzanine (junior debt) financing for expansion and buyouts, and fund investing (primary and secondary LP commitments to alternative-investment managers).
  • Emphasis on middle-market, sponsor-backed companies — established businesses with cash flow rather than early-stage startups.
  • Now at Third Point, focus is private credit / direct lending and originations, contributing to a platform managing ~$23 billion in private-credit assets.
  • GoldPoint's process is characterized by rigorous underwriting — evaluating management teams, strategy, historical performance, and capital-structure position (mezzanine sits subordinate to senior debt for higher yield).

Notable Investments

  • GoldPoint Mezzanine Partners IV — the firm's flagship mezzanine debt fund providing junior capital to middle-market companies.
  • GoldPoint Partners Co-Investment Fund V / VI — equity co-investment vehicles investing alongside private equity sponsors in buyouts.
  • GoldPoint Mezzanine Partners Co-Investment Fund A — SEC-registered co-investment sidecar for mezzanine deals.
  • New York Life Insurance Company alternatives portfolio — GoldPoint manages private equity/credit allocations for its parent and other institutional LPs.
