Background

Rick Scanlon is a founding partner at Innovation Endeavors, the early-stage venture firm co-founded by Eric Schmidt, Dror Berman, Scott Brady, and Scanlon. The firm describes its work as partnering with technical founders pursuing breakthroughs across AI, computing infrastructure, sensing, electrification, robotics, biology, intelligent software, health, and the physical economy.

Before Innovation Endeavors, Scanlon co-founded Marker LLC in 2011, a New York- and Israel-focused venture capital and growth equity firm. Taboola’s 2026 proxy states that Innovation Endeavors merged with Marker in 2017, and that Scanlon invested at Marker in companies including Yext, Datorama, Dynamic Yield, Yotpo, Team8, Overwolf, Tufin, and Taboola.

Earlier, Scanlon co-founded and served as managing partner of Crescent Point, a Singapore-based venture and private equity firm, in 2003. Public biographies note that he spent 16 years living in Asia and that one of his earliest major investments was AirAsia in 2002. He began his career in investment banking at Morgan Stanley and Credit Suisse.

Scanlon earned a B.A. from Middlebury College in 1993, studying art/architecture and physics. He has served on Middlebury College’s Board of Trustees and is listed by the Aspen Center for Physics as a general member from 2022 onward.

Investment Thesis & Focus

  • Innovation Endeavors’ stated focus is early-stage technical founders “chasing the edge of what's possible” across AI, computing infrastructure, sensing, electrification, robotics, and biology.
  • The firm backs intelligent, AI-native software that transforms workflows, data search, security, automation, agents, simulation, and new interfaces.
  • Scanlon’s own AlphaSense investment post emphasized enterprise knowledge work, information overload, and AI tools that let users go “wider, deeper, and faster” in research and decision-making.
  • Innovation Endeavors’ approach is thesis-oriented and relationship-driven: the firm says it meets scientists, engineers, and technical talent long before companies are formed.
  • Reported individual check range on Signal is $100K-$5.0M, with a $1.5M sweet spot; a separate VCWire profile reports the firm typically commits $1M-$15M initially and often leads or co-leads rounds.
  • Scanlon appears especially aligned with data-rich enterprise software, AI search, marketing technology, and software businesses with strong analytical or workflow leverage.
